CBS is currently undergoing significant changes with its new ownership. As is common with new owners, they’re making widespread adjustments, including layoffs, typically to reduce expenses. However, the recent focus isn’t on cost-cutting, but rather on areas where CBS is actually increasing investment.
CBS Is Spending $10,000 A Day On Security For New Editor In Chief
In October, Paramount Skydance cut around 10% of its staff as part of cost-saving measures. At the same time, reports indicate the company is spending an extra $10,000 each day on security for Bari Weiss, the new Editor-in-Chief at CBS.
Bari Weiss, who founded The Free Press, recently became the Editor-in-Chief of CBS News, a decision that has sparked strong reactions from people with different political views. According to Page Six, she’s currently being protected by a large security detail – eight bodyguards and several SUVs – a level of protection usually reserved for prominent politicians.
It’s currently unknown whether the security arrangements for Weiss are a permanent part of her job contract, lasting throughout her time at CBS, or if they’re a short-term solution for a particular need. Only time will reveal the answer, but if the reported costs are accurate, CBS is making a substantial financial commitment.
The increased security measures for Weiss are likely connected to her strong support of Zionism and the recent death of political commentator Charlie Kirk. While understandable, the cost of this security is unpopular because the money could potentially be used to save jobs during current layoffs.
Major Changes At CBS News Could Include Gayle King
CBS is undergoing significant changes, including layoffs. While many of these cuts will affect back-office positions, some changes are quite noticeable. The hosts of CBS’ Saturday morning news show have been let go as part of a major overhaul, and even bigger changes are expected for the weekday broadcasts.
I’m a big fan of Gayle King, and I was surprised to hear rumors that she might be leaving CBS Mornings after ten years! CBS is saying those reports aren’t true, and they haven’t had any conversations about her leaving. They’ve even suggested she could still be with CBS, just not on camera. But honestly, if she does move on from being an anchor, it’ll be a huge loss for the show. I really hope she stays where she is!
This all comes after CBS decided to cancel The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Although that decision was made before the recent merger, the new owners are sticking with it. The show will finish airing in May, and it remains to be seen how CBS will spend its money going forward.
