Art The Clown Actor Wants To Play Joker Next, Teases He Could Do "Fun Things"

As a long-time horror enthusiast who’s seen my fair share of slasher flicks and comic book villains, I can’t help but get excited about David Howard Thornton’s ambition to play the Joker. Having Art the Clown as my gateway drug into the world of terrifying clowns, it’s fascinating to see the evolution of this actor’s career and his desire to take on such an iconic role.

David Howard Thornton, known for his role as Art the Clown in the Terrifier series, expressed a willingness to portray yet another menacing clown character, specifically DC’s iconic villain, The Joker, in future projects.

Thorton shared with GamesRadar that the Joker is his all-time favorite villain, and he dreams of having the chance to portray this character someday. He also mentioned that he hopes DC Studios co-boss James Gunn will offer him a role as the Joker, as he feels he could bring some unique elements to the character.

Over the years, the Joker has been played by people like Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, Jared Leto, and Joaquin Phoenix most recently. The Terrifier series is known for its extreme and unrelenting gore, and DC’s Joker is not necessarily as sadistic, but it would no doubt be fun to see Thorton give it a go.

Thornton has never portrayed the Joker character himself, but instead drew inspiration from it for his creation, Art the Clown. He also incorporated elements of characters such as Jason, Pinhead, Freddy Krueger, Chucky, and Jigsaw into this role. In essence, he views Art the Clown as a combination or fusion of all the horror icons that came before him.

In the upcoming Friday, October 11, Terrifier 3 – the latest addition in the series created by writer-director Damien Leone – will be released. As per Deadline’s predictions, this movie could potentially open with a domestic box office collection of $11 million over its first weekend. If this occurs, it would move Joker: Folie a Deux down to the No. 2 position in theaters after just one week of screenings.

In other updates for spooky season, the character from “The Clown” series has made an appearance in Call of Duty’s latest Halloween expansion – and he’s absolutely chilling!
