Armie Hammer Denies Robert Downey Jr. Paid for His Rehab, but Says Actor Gave Him Advice: ‘Sit Down, Shut Up and Everything Is Going to Be OK’

As a follower of Hollywood news, I have watched with a heavy heart as Armie Hammer’s career and personal life have been consumed by controversy over the past year. The allegations against him were shocking and disturbing, leading to his exit from several projects, loss of representation, and an LAPD investigation.

Armie Hammer spoke on “Piers Morgan Uncensored” last Friday about the fallout from the sexual misconduct accusations leveled against him in 2021.

Due to the accusations against him involving allegations of rape, suggesting cannibalism fantasies, and pressuring partners into BDSM role-plays, the actor known for “The Social Network” and “Call Me by Your Name” left various projects, lost his publicist and agent, and faced an LAPD probe. However, no criminal charges were filed against Hammer, and he has consistently asserted that all relationships were consensual.

In spite of the controversy, Hammer disclosed to Morgan that certain old Hollywood acquaintances had contacted him, among them Robert Downey Jr. However, when questioned about rumors that “Iron Man”‘s star had covered his rehabilitation costs, Hammer denied this emphatically, stating, “No, he didn’t. He didn’t pay for my rehab.”

When prodded as to whether Downey has been “supportive,” Hammer was hesitant to answer.

“Hammer replied with a ‘yes,’ but Morgan questioned his certainty, suggesting that the previously reported information might not be accurate after all.”

Hammer expressed his preference for keeping others out of his current predicament. He acknowledged the assistance he’s received from several individuals and expressed deep gratitude towards them.

Hammer expressed gratitude for Downey’s support during his struggle with addiction, explaining, “Anyone in Hollywood dealing with addiction, be it alcohol, process addiction, or drug issues, will encounter a helping hand from this person once they decide to get clean. The assistance is truly astounding.”

Hammer recounted the best piece of counsel Downey had given him as: “He told me to ‘take a seat, be quiet, and not worry, everything will turn out alright.'”

Representatives for Downey did not immediately respond to EbMaster‘s request for comment.

Morgan enquired if Leonardo DiCaprio (from “J. Edgar”) or Julia Roberts (“Mirror Mirror”) had contacted Hammer for support, but Hammer answered negatively.

Hammer shared that he prefers to concentrate on those who reached out to him during his hardships, rather than dwelling on those who didn’t get in touch. He mentioned that a few significant individuals extended their support.

Hammer expressed his gratitude towards Luca Guadagnino for publicly expressing his support. (In response to a question from EbMaster in 2022 about including Hammer’s character in a potential “Call Me by Your Name” sequel, Guadagnino replied, “Yes, definitely.”)

Hammer acknowledged, “However, I’m fully conscious of the fact that this is a delicate situation, and expressing any form of support can lead to criticism. I realize that my actions were provocative, and those who come too near may inadvertently fan the flames.”

Morgan inquired from Hammer if they had heard from Johnny Depp, Morgan’s “Lone Ranger” costar, following the events that transpired.

“We’ve had some conversations, both over the phone and video calls. Neither of us disclosed personal matters during these chats; instead, they were mostly friendly checks-ins – ‘Hi there, nice to hear from you, glad things are going well for you.’ sort of interactions.”

In the hour and twenty minute long interview, Morgan directly questioned Hammer about the rumors suggesting he harbored cannibalistic desires, specifically asking, “Do you practice cannibalism?”

Hammer answered, “I’m sorry but that’s not the case. To become a cannibal, one must have consumed human flesh. Therefore, I haven’t.”

In further discussion, Hammer expressed, “That’s not much unlike when someone sees an adorable baby and exclaims, ‘Wow, look at those chubby little legs! I could just devour you!'”

Hammer addressed a claim where he had marked a previous relationship partner. While he hesitated to use the term “brand,” Hammer acknowledged using the tip of a small knife to trace the letter “A” instead.

“There wasn’t even blood in the situation, it was more like a scrape,” he added.

I recently had the pleasure of listening to Hammer’s interview on Bill Maher’s “Club Random” podcast. During the conversation, he shared his perspective on being “canceled,” describing it as a liberating experience.

If these events hadn’t occurred, my life would have carried on unchanged, according to Hammer. He acknowledged that this stagnation would eventually result in one outcome: death.

On Maher’s podcast, Hammer continued to reject all accusations levied against him. However, he acknowledged engaging in less than desirable conduct in the past.

“I acted shamefully towards my wife by being unfaithful and manipulating others for personal gain. I disregarded people’s feelings and well-being without consideration. Such actions were wrong and I must acknowledge the consequences of my past behavior to learn and develop from it.”

As a film enthusiast, I can tell you that for the past two and a half years, I’ve lived under the constant threat of investigation by the LAPD. They delved deep into my personal life, examining every call and email, interviewing eyewitnesses, leaving no stone unturned in their quest to build a case against me. It was a time where a high-profile arrest like mine would have been a significant win for the LAPD’s reputation.
