Arc Raiders Update Nerfs Weapons And Introduces Abyss Cosmetics

Arc Raiders will receive a small update mid-January to reduce the strength of two weapons, the Trigger ‘Nade and the Kettle. The developers at Embark Studios have confirmed they were aware of these balance issues and are addressing them in update 1.11.0.

Embark discovered that the Kettle weapon’s fastest firing rate of 600 was only achievable by players using cheating software – programs that gave them an unfair advantage. To fix this, an update reduced the Kettle’s maximum fire rate to 450.

The developers at Embark noticed the Trigger ‘Nade was extremely popular and powerful in player-versus-player combat, outperforming all other grenades. To balance the game, they’ve reduced the grenade’s damage radius, focusing it on the center of the blast, and increased the detonation time to 1.5 seconds. This change aims to give opponents more time to react and make it more difficult to use the grenade effectively while throwing it in the air.

This update is bringing a new cosmetic set called The Abyss, and honestly, it looks awesome. The description says the weird, techy eye on the helmet might not actually do anything, but it’s definitely meant to scare people, and I’m here for it!

Embark confirmed that Arc Raiders has sold 12 million copies and thanked early players by gifting them a special in-game item, the “Gilded Pickaxe Raider Tool.” They also announced plans to add stronger anti-cheat systems to the game soon.

Kettle

  • Dev note: Reduced fire rate from 600 to 450. The previous fire rate was only realistically reachable by players using macros, which creates an unfair dynamic that favors using 3rd party software.

Trigger ‘Nade

  • Dev note: Trigger ‘Nade currently dominates PVP encounters, and players favor picking it over all our other grenades. This nerf aims to make it less usable as a “trigger-in-air” grenade, whilst keeping its usefulness as a sticky bomb. Damage falloff has been rebalanced to concentrate the damage closer to the center of the explosion, and deal less damage further away. The delay between triggering the grenade and it detonating, has been increased from 0.7s to 1.5s, giving players more time to react, and making it harder to time the detonation in air.

Bugs

  • Fixed a key card exploit that allowed players to keep room keys after using them.
  • Lighting has been lowered in some areas on Stella Montis Night Raid making flashlights and listening more relevant.
