ArbitrumDAO’s Grand Council Shuffle: ARB Price Does a Jig!

My dear, the ArbitrumDAO has been ever so busy, darling! They’ve elected six new members to their oh-so-important 12-person Security Council. The vote, a veritable marathon from April 12 to May 3, has reshaped the body that handles those dreadfully urgent protocol actions for Arbitrum (ARB). How thrilling!

Michael Lewellen, a darling of the electorate, led the pack with a staggering 25.19 million weighted votes. The ARB price, ever so sensitive, reacted with a flutter, as governance attention returns to the network. How utterly predictable, yet delightful!

Six Darlings Reshape Half the Council, Darling!

Six of the 12 council seats, my dear, rotate every six months under Arbitrum’s security framework. A bit like musical chairs, but with rather more at stake, don’t you think?

  • Lewellen, a returning darling, secured the highest weighted total at 25.19 million. Bravo, Michael!
  • DZack23 came second with 24.01 million votes. Not too shabby, old chap!
  • Yoav.eth followed at 21.75 million,
  • Certora at 21.56 million.
  • Bartek.eth pulled 21.05 million, and
  • Pablo Sabbatella of OPSEK rounded out the cohort at 20.82 million. Quite the lineup, wouldn’t you agree?

11 candidates, my dear, qualified for the final round after those tedious compliance checks. The pool narrowed from a wider field that began submitting applications in March. Such drama!

The wait is over, darlings.

Voting, my dear, carried full weight for the first seven days of the 21-day window, then decayed to reward early participation. How very clever of them!

A grace period ends May 21, after which the new cohort starts signing for the multisig. Oh, the responsibility!

ARB’s Little Dance and the Council’s Live Stakes

As of this writing, ARB was trading for $0.1193, up by almost 5% in the last 24 hours. Traders, those darling speculators, are weighing the rotation against ongoing council business. How they do love a bit of excitement!

The new cohort inherits an unfinished file, my dear. Weeks before the vote closed, the outgoing council froze 30,766 ETH tied to the KelpDAO exploit. The emergency action highlighted the body’s real-world powers. Quite the handover, wouldn’t you say?

A US court has since blocked movement of the frozen stash while victims pursue claims, leaving recovery in legal limbo. Oh, the drama of it all!

The seated members will also weigh ongoing treasury decisions tied to ARB allocations across the DAO. Such important work, darling!

Once members take their seats after May 21, the council inherits the pending file. New threats to the Layer 2 (L2) will land in their inbox too. How they’ll manage, I wonder?

Continued legal pressure on the KelpDAO funds will be the first major test of the incoming signers. Let’s raise a glass to their fortitude, shall we?
