As a seasoned crypto investor with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen more than a few shake-ups in the industry. Yet, Mo Shaikh’s departure from Aptos Labs as CEO feels like a significant milestone. Having been deeply involved in the blockchain world since 2016, Mo has played an instrumental role in shaping the landscape of this digital frontier.
Mo Shaikh, co-founder of Aptos Labs, announced that he’s stepping down as CEO of the company.
As a researcher exploring the realm of blockchain technology, I’ve come across Aptos – a promising layer-1 blockchain. This network asserts its strength in delivering improved scalability, security, and transaction speeds. Notably, it employs a distinct blockchain programming language, Move, which was initially conceived for Facebook’s cancelled “Diem” project.
In a comprehensive update on X, Shaikh – one of Aptos’ co-founders alongside Avery Ching – shared feelings of satisfaction about Aptos’ achievements. These accomplishments encompassed securing an impressive $400 million in venture capital investment and creating a highly resilient network that is relied upon by more than a thousand developers and innovators worldwide.
From my earliest recollections, I’ve harbored a deep enthusiasm for creating platforms that enhance people’s abilities—fairer, more transparent ones. Since 2016, I’ve immersed myself in the blockchain sector, delving into its transformative capabilities and contributing to its social and economic impact.

Ching, Shaikh said, will assume the role of CEO and lead the company into its next phase of growth.
In a recent update on his platform, Shaikh gave credit to the collaborators and backers of Aptos, which include financial giants such as BlackRock, Google, Mastercard, and PayPal.
As a researcher looking back at this groundbreaking project, I cannot stress enough how pivotal the steadfast backing of our extraordinary investors has been. I’d like to express my heartfelt appreciation to Dragonfly, Blocktower, Haun Ventures, Hashed, IRONGREY, a16z, Apollo, Coinbase, Parafi, Scribble, PayPal, Franklin Templeton, and the remarkable angel investors who embraced our vision. Their faith in us has been instrumental in turning dreams into reality.
Shaikh expressed his intention to continue supporting Aptos in a strategic advisory role, while also planning to ponder on the future direction of blockchain and financial systems. In his own words, he declared that he will always stand by Aptos and its objectives, further stating his excitement about continuing to assist Aptos in maintaining its position as the global leader in blockchain technology.
