Apple TV’s new sci-fi series, Pluribus, is scheduled to launch in November 2025 and is expected to boost the platform’s standing in the streaming world. Most streaming services specialize in certain types of content – HBO, Disney+, Hulu, and Prime Video all have fairly predictable offerings. Netflix is the main exception, as it produces original shows across many different genres and styles.
HBO is famous for high-quality, dramatic TV shows. Disney+ focuses on family entertainment and Marvel series. Hulu offers comedies and dramas geared towards adults. Prime Video has a diverse selection of expensive, large-scale shows. And Apple TV is becoming known for science fiction programs that also offer thought-provoking messages about society.

Apple TV+ is adding another science fiction series to its growing lineup, joining hits like Severance, Silo, and Foundation. Called Pluribus, the show will debut on November 7, 2025, and centers around Carol Sturka (played by Rhea Seehorn), a writer in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She’s unique because she seems to be the only person unaffected by a virus that causes extreme happiness, complacency, and unrealistic optimism in everyone else.
The trailer for Pluribus shows everyone trying to ‘fix’ Carol. In a society obsessed with happiness, even during terrible times, Carol’s natural feelings of sadness, anger, and frustration are seen as a problem. People will go to any length to change her – even offering her incredibly dangerous weapons – just to make her feel better.
This new show fits perfectly with Apple TV+’s other science fiction offerings, which often explore humanity’s desire to escape difficult feelings or achieve order by promising a perfect world. It’s become clear that Apple TV+ has discovered what it does best, and after the popularity of Severance, they seem fully committed to this type of storytelling.
Pluribus Could Be Even Better Than Severance

The show Severance has become a huge cultural hit, thanks to its amazing actors and brilliantly written scripts that blend drama, comedy, and thought-provoking social commentary. It’s a tough act to follow, but Pluribus might just be able to meet—or even exceed—its standard.
One of the most exciting things about Pluribus is that it was created by Vince Gilligan, who also brought us Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Rhea Seehorn, who played Kim Wexler in Better Call Saul, worked closely with Gilligan on that show. Given their successful collaboration and Gilligan’s track record, Pluribus looks set to be a major success, and likely a landmark series for Apple TV.
