Apple TV+ Orders Series ‘Widow’s Bay’ From Katie Dippold, Hiro Murai to Direct Pilot

As a seasoned movie enthusiast with a penchant for unraveling the intricacies of storytelling and a soft spot for the supernatural, I find myself thoroughly intrigued by the upcoming Apple TV+ series “Widow’s Bay.”


Apple TV+ has given a series order to to “Widow’s Bay,” which hails from creator Katie Dippold.

Hiro Murai will oversee both the direction of the pilot episode and executive production for this 10-episode series. The official description of the show is that it centers around an eerily haunted New England island and its deeply superstitious residents, with a mayor who stubbornly dismisses their warnings about the island’s curse

Dippold takes on the roles of both writer and executive producer for “Widow’s Bay,” additionally serving as the showrunner. Murai, along with Claudia Shin through Super Frog, and Carver Karaszewski, are also named as executive producers. Apple Studios will be responsible for production

Murai is known for his work as a director and executive producer on shows like the hit FX series “Atlanta” and “The Bear.” His work on both shows has earned him multiple Emmy nominations, including two nods for outstanding directing for a comedy series for “Atlanta.” He shared in “The Bear’s” win for best comedy series in 2023. Most recently, Murai was nominated for best directing for a drama series for “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” and also shares in that show’s nomination for best drama series as well as “The Bear’s” second nomination for best comedy series. The 2024 Emmy Awards are scheduled to take place in Sept. 15 in Los Angeles.
