Apple is unveiling a fresh, all-encompassing gaming application called “Apple Games” this autumn. It will be accessible on iPhone, iPad, and Mac computers. The new platform merges the functionalities of the previous Game Center app with the game segment from the standard App Store. Additionally, it includes a specific tab for Apple Arcade.
The new Apple Games application serves as a central hub for playing games on Apple devices. It integrates the game store, your previously purchased games library, Apple Arcade, your friend list, and various community aspects all in one place. Any game available on the App Store will be automatically incorporated into the Apple Games app. When it goes live this fall, the Apple Games app is set to take over from the Game Center app, inheriting its social gaming features such as friends lists, achievement tracking, leaderboards, and additional functionalities.
Reports indicate that Apple has been developing a gaming application, tentatively planned for release around the anticipated launch of Switch 2 on June 5th. Currently in its beta stage, the app is set to be officially launched later in 2025 as a built-in feature in iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and MacOS 16 – the latest operating system updates that Apple unveiled this week at WWDC 2025.
As a devoted enthusiast, I’m thrilled about the growing gaming potential of Macs and iPads with the introduction of Game Overlay. Essentially, this innovative feature offers an in-game overlay that gamers can utilize to navigate friend lists, social features, and system settings, all without disrupting their gameplay experience.
The latest updates are part of Apple’s broader strategy to enhance its gaming sector, encompassing a broader collection of top-tier games now available for Mac computers. Recently, Apple has disclosed that the open-world adventure game Crimson Desert, as well as InZOI, which resembles The Sims, will be making their way onto Mac systems. Other titles such as Cyberpunk 2077, Lies of P: Overture, Hitman: World of Assassination, and more are also included in this initiative.
