Apple will pay $250 million to resolve a lawsuit claiming they misled customers about when its Siri voice assistant would receive new, AI-powered features.
A legal settlement has been proposed in federal court in California regarding Apple’s advertising of its new “Enhanced Siri” feature, which is part of Apple Intelligence. The lawsuit claimed Apple advertised these advanced AI capabilities for Siri before the iPhone 16 was released, but the features weren’t actually available when the phone launched.
This lawsuit applies to people in the US who bought an iPhone 15 or iPhone 16 between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025. If approved, each person could receive between $25 and $95 per device, depending on how many valid claims are filed.
As a fan who’s been following this, it looks like the settlement is offering around $25 per device for anyone eligible. But, depending on how many claims come in, that amount could go up to $95, or possibly even be a little lower. It’s all based on the number of people who file a claim, so it’s not a guaranteed amount.
Apple plans to add more Siri and Apple Intelligence features through future software updates, and these updates will be free to users.
Apple accused of overhyping AI Siri features
The lawsuit claims Apple used misleading advertisements to heavily promote improved Siri features that were initially unveiled at their 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference.
The updates featured a smarter Siri that could better understand users and work with multiple apps. Apple highlighted these improvements as part of its new Apple Intelligence initiative, previewing what’s coming with the iPhone 16.
So, this whole thing came up because the Better Business Bureau looked into Apple’s advertising for Apple Intelligence. Apparently, they said Apple claiming it was “available now” was misleading. It made it sound like the new and improved Siri was already live with the feature, but it actually hadn’t launched yet. Basically, they thought Apple was jumping the gun on announcing its release.
In March 2025, Apple confirmed the advanced Siri features would be delayed until a later date.

In the same month, Apple’s Jacqueline Roy explained to Daring Fireball that they were developing a smarter, more personalized Siri – one that better understands your individual needs and can work across your apps to get things done. However, she acknowledged that releasing these improvements would take more time than initially expected.
Soon after announcing the delay, Apple took down an ad featuring Bella Ramsey. The ad showed Siri recalling details from a conversation that happened at a cafe.
The agreement is still subject to a judge’s approval, and Apple has not admitted any fault.
This is the second time in recent years Apple has reached a significant settlement related to Siri. Previously, in May 2025, they agreed to pay $95 million to resolve claims that Siri had recorded private conversations without people’s permission.
