In my own words, here’s how I would rephrase the plot:

As a retail worker, I find myself in a chilling scenario where a mysterious COVID “remedy” turns arrogant mall shoppers into mindless zombies, identifiable by their typical ‘Karen’ hairstyles. Now, it’s a race against time to not only endure the customer service horrors but also survive this terrifying ordeal.

Runtime: 1 Hour 10 Minutes

Narrative: The Apocalypse commences when teenage Apo sets off for work at the local shopping center. Yet, he encounters a woman reminiscent of a ‘Karen’, causing him troubles as a cure for COVID-19 evolves into another treatment involving rat poison. As everyday ‘Karens’ transform into zombies, Apo and his companions struggle to flee the mall.

Meanwhile, their getaway strategy leads them into an unanticipated battle against new foes, for the virus is rapidly spreading. Zombies, now occupying the mall, intensify the struggle for survival.

Or:

As they attempt to flee, they find themselves confronting unforeseen adversaries due to the escalating virus. Soon, the mall becomes overrun by zombies, prolonging their desperate bid for survival.

Verdict on ApoKalypse

Recap

The film chronicles a high school student employed at a shopping mall, who finds himself in a struggle against hordes of zombies. To evade the danger and halt the escalation of the zombie infestation, he must decipher the situation first.

Best Parts

The film delivers animation humor reminiscent of Family Guy or Bob’s Burgers, blending satire of societal stereotypes with a zombie apocalypse backdrop. Its unique approach could potentially inspire other animators to create something similar, offering plenty of amusement from the concepts. This comedy is tailored for a specific humor sensibility, but if it resonates with you, you’ll find yourself laughing out loud. Despite its limited runtime, it provides enough time for secondary characters to shine. Considering the micro-budget, this film stands as an impressive accomplishment in animated filmmaking, offering a social message, well-developed characters, and humor.

Worst Parts

I noted that not all jokes resonate as strongly as they might; they cater more to specific groups who find them amusing.

Final ThoughtsApoKalypse is enjoyable, wacky and wildly entertaining.
