Kipling Kher, one of Indian cinema’s most active character actors, embarked on his directorial journey with the 2002 film “Om Jai Jagadish,” a family-centric drama that starred Waheeda Rehman, Anil Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, and Abhishek Bachchan. Despite this being his first time directing, Kher has spent most of his career in front of the camera, appearing in more than 500 films across various languages. Globally, Kher established a presence in Hollywood with roles in movies like “Silver Linings Playbook,” “The Big Sick,” and “Hotel Mumbai.” His portrayal of Dr. Kapoor on NBC’s medical series “New Amsterdam” expanded his reach to a broader American TV audience, while he earned a BAFTA nomination for his work in the BBC’s “The Boy with the Topknot.
