Ants

Fremantle now holds worldwide distribution permissions for the fast-paced Japanese competition format “Ants.” This show emphasizes teamwork, drawing inspiration from the intricate cooperation observed in ant colonies.

Ants” is a creation of Nippon TV that has been enhanced by Fremantle North America for international distribution. This exciting game show first premiered on Nippon TV in Japan, quickly gaining attention due to its playful yet physically taxing challenges, themed characters, grandiose set designs, and captivating team-based gameplay.

As a cinephile, I’m excited to share that my favorite production company, Fremantle, has acquired global co-distribution rights for an upcoming project! Nippon TV will handle distribution in most Asian territories, except for Indonesia, India, and Singapore. Meanwhile, the rest of the world will be served by none other than Fremantle itself!

In this thrilling competition, I find myself shrunk down to ant size, dwarfed by a world that towers above me. I must navigate through oversized landscapes to conquer physical tasks that demand strategic thinking. From solo missions to team efforts, we face colossal obstacles, like carrying humongous food items across a mammoth kitchen as swiftly as possible to claim the cash prize, all while battling against time. The more items I collect, the greater the reward – but not everyone makes it, with sad consequences for some.

Jimmy Fox, who serves as Executive Vice President, Head of Development and Sales for Unscripted at Fremantle, expressed his long-standing admiration for Nippon TV’s history of creating innovative and groundbreaking format ideas. Whether it was “Dragons Den,” which introduced U.S. viewers to “Shark Tank,” or “Sokkuri Sweets” that ignited the “cake or not cake” craze, Fox found these formats truly remarkable. He stated, “It’s quite uncommon to come across a format that leaves you thinking ‘I’ve never seen anything like this.’ ‘Ants,’ in my opinion, is one of those unique formats.

Vasha Wallace, the executive vice president of global acquisitions and development at Fremantle’s global entertainment department, declared: “This series is side-splittingly funny, incredibly intriguing, and has already piqued a great deal of attention. ‘Ants’ uniquely combines humor with physical tasks in a manner that captivates and amuses viewers of all ages.

Tom Miyauchi, who’s in charge of formats at Nippon TV, stated that this thrilling, oversized game show provides an exceptional angle on common creatures, emphasizing the strength of unity and collaboration, just as ants do themselves.
