Antony Starr Responds to Fan Hype for Resident Evil Reboot Role

Antony Starr has left a lasting impression on “The Boys” viewers with his captivating portrayal of the sinister Homelander. As the series gears up for its final act in Season 5, fans are eagerly speculating about another formidable antagonist role that could suit Starr perfectly in future projects.

As a dedicated film enthusiast, I’m thrilled about the upcoming reboot of a beloved franchise, directed by the talented Zach Cregger (known for “Barbarian”). There’s been buzz among fans that this new movie might bring back one of the series’ most iconic characters, Albert Wesker. Some even envision the charismatic Starr stepping into the role. Intriguingly, a well-respected digital artist named BossLogic has shared a concept image, depicting what Starr could look like as Wesker in a Resident Evil film. He’s even urged the casting team to make it official. Following BossLogic’s post, Starr himself commented, “I agree.

It’s possible that Starr is most recognized for portraying Homelander, a figure who conceals his malevolent personality, appearing as a hero until his real intentions are unmasked. However, it was Starr’s acting in the action film “G20” with Viola Davis that sparked BossLogic to create the image. The sight of the actor in tactical clothing might have reinforced some viewers’ beliefs about casting Starr as Wesker, and with the addition of sunglasses, he shares a striking physical resemblance to the video game character version of Wesker.

Will Albert Wesker Be in the New Resident Evil Movie?

One significant challenge that could impact the casting is the possibility that the Wesker character may not appear in the film, as there’s no confirmation at present regarding any video game characters being featured. The movie, scheduled for a theater release on September 18, 2026, doesn’t have an official title revealed yet.

Within the game’s narrative, it is established that Wesker initially served as the head of S.T.A.R.S., an elite tactical and rescue team within Raccoon City’s police department. However, hidden allegiances were at play: Wesker was covertly collaborating with the Umbrella Corporation. He strategically led the other S.T.A.R.S. members to a remote mansion in the mountains, which functioned both as a hideout for zombies and as a laboratory where the T-Virus was being used to create monstrous creatures. His intention was to test their abilities against these deadly foes. Following an injection of a unique strain of virus meant to augment his power, Wesker resurfaced in subsequent installments of the game series.

I, a dedicated fan, have seen various live-action interpretations of the iconic character Wesker across different adaptations of the original game and subsequent series. While Pablo Kuntz lent his voice to the character in the cut scenes, Eric Pirius brought Wesker to life on screen. In the Milla Jovovich-led movie franchise, Jason O’Mara portrayed Wesker in one film, with Shawn Roberts stepping into the role for three others. Tom Hopper assumed the mantle in “Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City,” and the late Lance Reddick embodied another version in the Netflix “Resident Evil” series.

Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil will be released on Sept. 18, 2026.
