The developers recently announced on their Steam page that the early access launch of Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault, the sequel to the beloved indie dungeon-crawling RPG Moonlighter, has been pushed back one month, from October 23rd to November 19th.
So, what issues might cause an independent game like this to delay its launch, particularly when fans are finally starting to move on from their obsession with Silksong?
The team at Digital Sun and publisher 11 Bit Studios don’t mention how long it took to develop the game or any pressure they faced. Instead, they point to the large number of games being released this October; it’s turning out to be a very busy month, perhaps more so than we initially thought.
Is October 2025’s Most Crowded Month Yet?

As stated on their Steam page, “the month has become too packed with other excellent game releases, making it difficult for us to stand out.” They explained that, like a valuable jewel lost in a cluttered display, even the best games can be missed when there are too many competing for attention.
It’s easy to see why they’re excited when you look at this month’s games. The month kicks off on October 2nd with the release of the highly awaited Ghost of Yotei, and about a week after that comes Battlefield 6, one of the most talked-about multiplayer games of the year.
For those who enjoy role-playing games (RPGs), Moonlighter 2 was originally scheduled to release between two highly anticipated sequels: Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 on the 21st, and The Outer Worlds 2 on the 29th.
In the next month, the developers of Moonlighter 2 will be starting Closed Playtests on both Steam and the Microsoft Store. This will give you a chance to try out some of the new improvements we’ve made to the game, which are based on your previous feedback.
If you’re eager to experience the Moonlighter series and can’t wait the month-long delay, the first game is currently available for $1.99 during Steam’s Autumn Sale for a limited time.
To be honest, October is already so full of video game releases that it’s hard to imagine what things would have been like if GTA 6 had stuck to its original plan for a 2025 launch. Thankfully, these delays will probably be easier on our budgets.
