After the movie Avengers: Infinity War, fans created a humorous idea called the “Thanus Theory.” It proposed that Ant-Man could defeat Thanos by shrinking down, entering his body, and then growing back to normal size. Believe it or not, a recent Marvel comic book series featured a similar, though equally unsettling, concept – without the, uh, questionable entry method.

I’m really enjoying this Battleworld series! The second issue, written by Christos Gage and illustrated by Marcus To, focuses on this awesome group of heroes who’ve somehow ended up stuck on Battleworld – this giant planet made up of pieces of other worlds. It’s wild because they’re not all from the same time or place! We’ve got the original Ant-Man, Hank Pym, a young Spider-Man, and it’s cool seeing Carol Danvers as Warbird before she became Captain Marvel. It’s a really unique team-up!

Hank Pym had distanced himself from other superheroes recently. This was largely due to the tragic death of his students, who were killed by the villain Arcade. Arcade had kidnapped young heroes from Pym’s Avengers Academy and forced them to participate in a deadly game similar to The Hunger Games. When Pym discovered Arcade was operating on Battleworld, he was determined to get revenge.
Ant-Man Hank Pym’s “Thanus” upgrade explained
Following the tragic loss of his students, Pym dedicated himself to learning everything about Arcade. Having once been Ant-Man, Pym understood that Arcade had almost complete control over his deadly Murderworld parks. Arcade himself was extremely concerned with safety, using both magical protections and personal forcefields. However, Pym discovered a critical flaw in Arcade’s defenses: he still had to breathe, leaving him vulnerable.
Knowing this, Ant-Man devised a plan to defeat Arcade from the inside. He gathered a swarm of stinging insects and shrunk them down to microscopic size, allowing them to enter Arcade’s body with each breath. Once inside, they grew just enough to trigger a severe allergic reaction, incapacitating Arcade without him realizing what was happening.

Okay, so the plot in this film reminded me a bit of that wild ‘Thanus Theory’ – both involve taking down the bad guy from the inside. But honestly, the way Ant-Man goes about it here is way more unsettling than that theory ever was. The Thanus idea, as gross as it is, would be a fast end. What Hank Pym threatens Arcade with? That’s a slow, agonizing death by wasp stings. And frankly, a lot of viewers might find a quick, albeit bizarre, end preferable to that kind of torture. It’s a disturbing choice, and it definitely left an impression.
