Despite recent challenges and a belief that typical games are becoming less popular, Ubisoft isn’t giving up on the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Their Quebec studio is currently hiring for two positions specifically for the series.
A new Assassin’s Creed on the horizon
This is likely a completely new game in the series, as it’s being developed by Ubisoft Quebec, the team that just released Shadows. We can rule out Assassin’s Creed: Hexe, though, since that one is being made by Ubisoft Montreal – the studio behind popular titles like Valhalla, Origins, and Black Flag.
The job postings don’t offer any clues about Ubisoft’s next game. However, they are hiring experienced leaders to manage teams, suggesting a significant new project is in the works.
- The first job is for an animation director who will “define how characters, environments, and objects move in a coherent and immersive world.”
- The second sought-after employee is a technical director for characters, who will be responsible for “the technical quality and consistency of character models.”
The Quebec team has previously developed several other Assassin’s Creed games, including Odyssey and Syndicate, in addition to Shadows. Because of this, some players are cautious about this new game coming from the same developers.
I’d prefer if the developers in Quebec didn’t continue working on the Assassin’s Creed franchise. They’re capable of making excellent games, but I don’t think they’re a good fit for that particular series.
Honestly, I’m not super hyped about the recent Quebec stuff. Mirage just blew Shadows out of the water for me, and it’s kind of left a bad taste. I’m hoping the next game will be better, but I’m keeping my expectations realistic for now.
