As a seasoned industry insider who has witnessed the evolution of media and entertainment over the past few decades, I am thrilled to see Anonymous Content expanding its global footprint. Their strategic approach to international partnerships is not only smart but also refreshing. They are clearly committed to fostering mutual growth and respecting local markets, which is a recipe for success in today’s interconnected world.

David Davoli, the president of Anonymous Content’s international division, mentioned that they are looking into establishing fresh alliances in Germany and Italy.

This would be Anonymous’s seventh collaboration, as they currently have alliances with businesses based in Brazil, Spain, France, the Nordics, and the U.K. Exclusively reported by EbMaster in October, this latest joint venture is with Brouhaha Entertainment, the production house behind “Boy Swallows Universe,” and it’s in Australia and New Zealand.

At the Content London conference in the U.K. on Tuesday afternoon, Davoli endorsed Anonymous’s plans for expansion within the television industry. Joining him were the leaders of some collaborating firms, including Guri Neby (CEO of Anonymous Content Nordics), Barbara Teixeira (CEO of Anonymous Content Brazil), Beatriz Campos (CEO of Anonymous Content Spain), Rosalie Cimino (managing director of Anonymous Federation), and Patrick Spence (managing director of AC Chapter One).

For Anonymous, Davoli clarified that their goal is to collaborate with skilled partners in local markets and offer a variety of assistance, including financial aid, editorial guidance, intellectual property prospects, and distribution services. “We’re teaming up with top-tier content creators, production companies, filmmakers, sometimes local agencies or other times regional partners,” Davoli added. “In this way, we aim to avoid being seen as pushy Americans.” Each local partnership maintains a high degree of independence, with their own teams handling daily operations and content selection. Our role is primarily one of support.

As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled about the global network of partners we have, as it exponentially boosts our ability to share knowledge and brainstorm ideas. For instance, a series created by Anonymous Content Nordics was so successful that they sold the format rights to their U.K. counterpart, Chapter One. During a recent panel, Patrick Spence from Chapter One disclosed that they are currently exploring an opportunity down under, thanks to the recent inclusion of Brouhaha in the Anonymous Content family.

Even though international collaborations offer numerous mutual advantages, I’ve chosen a strategic path for our production and management company that involves a gradual expansion rather than rapid replication of our business strategy across multiple territories. This is primarily due to the complexities of the global economy. I believe in growing at a measured pace and ensuring each partnership aligns perfectly with our vision.

When choosing the ideal partner, Anonymous considers a particular set of qualities, such as being self-directed (auteur-led), sharing similar editorial standards, and already being a strong contender in an existing market. Davoli notes that partnerships are similar to marriages: it’s simple to be impulsive and say “Let’s just do it,” but the practical aspects can sometimes prove challenging.

Anonymous, established in 1999 by the late producer Steve Golin, is currently headed by David Levine, a former executive from HBO’s drama division. On Tuesday, during the Content London panel, Levine was present in the audience.
