Annette Bening is now set to star in the sci-fi comedy 42.6 Years, replacing another actress in the lead female role. She’ll play a former lover of Andy Samberg’s character, who were separated by a cryogenic experiment. Bening, a five-time Oscar nominee, is known for her comedic talent and is taking on this role in her next acting project.
The movie 42.6 Years tells the story of Ben, played by Andy Samberg, who wakes up after being frozen for 42.6 years as part of an experiment. He then tries to reconnect with his former girlfriend, Ruthie (Annette Bening), who has continued living her life and aged considerably during his time frozen.
Annette Bening is taking over the lead female role from Jean Smart, according to Deadline. While the reason for Smart’s exit hasn’t been officially stated, it’s likely due to scheduling conflicts. Smart is currently very busy with other projects, including filming the final season of HBO Max’s Hacks, which starts in April, and preparing for her Broadway show, Call Me Izzy, set to open in June.
