Get ready for Scary Movie 6! The new film promises plenty of laughs with its spoofs of popular horror movies and current events, and it’s bringing back some of the original cast members. The trailer is already getting a lot of attention.
It’s been 13 years since the Wayans brothers last starred in a comedy together, and now they’re back with a new installment in a popular series. Regina Hall and Anna Faris are also returning to provide laughs and playfully poke fun at some recent horror hits, even a few that received Oscar nominations.
The trailer for Scary Movie 6 features a nod to many horror movies, including Scream VI, M3GAN, Wednesday, Ma, Sinners, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Get Out, Smile, Weapons, Longlegs, The Substance, and Terrifier. Of course, not every parody will be featured in the trailer, and it’s clear they aren’t holding back punches when it comes to the dark humor on current topics and making sure to let everyone know it’s okay to laugh. The official synopsis is:
More than two decades after escaping a masked killer who seemed awfully familiar (Ghostface), the stars of Scary Movie – Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, and Regina Hall – are back as the target of a new threat. They’re joined by both returning and new cast members to poke fun at the current horror movie landscape, including endless reboots, remakes, and sequels – and the misleading promises of ‘final chapters’ that never really are.
Everything is fair game. No comedic boundary is off-limits. The Wayans family is returning to satirize the practice of ‘cancel culture’ itself.
Marlon Wayans recently told EW that the film is designed to appeal to all ages and spark a much-needed, funny discussion between generations—from his own down to the newest. It seems the Wayans family’s goal is to playfully poke fun at everyone and everything, essentially challenging the idea of ‘Cancel Culture’ itself.
We’ll stick to our usual approach: poking fun at everyone, no matter who they are. We have a unique style of comedy – it’s something we developed growing up and it’s hard to replicate. It’s based on the way we were raised and the particular sense of humor we inherited from our mother.
The Scary Movie series is famous for its outrageous and often shocking humor. By referencing current events and the political landscape, the films allow audiences to laugh at both others and themselves.
