Animation Is Film 2025: Exciting Dates and Exclusive Poster Revealed!

As a follower, I’m thrilled to share that Animation Is Film (AIF), the esteemed animation sister event to the renowned Annecy Animation Festival of France, has announced its comeback in 2025. The three-day festival will take place from Friday, October 17th through Sunday, October 19th at the historic TCL Chinese Theatres in Hollywood.

For the eighth consecutive time, the festival will once more honor the craft and ingenuity of animated films. This year’s celebration is a joint effort with the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, GKIDS, and EbMaster.

Or, in another way:

The festival has been running for eight years now, and it’s time to celebrate the artistry and creativity of animated movies again! This time around, we’re collaborating with the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, GKIDS, and EbMaster.

From the very beginning, Animation Is Film has been all about honoring the concept that animation expands cinema’s potential. The festival’s consistent growth indicates that American viewers are on board with this idea. Looking ahead to 2025, it seems that the medium will have an exceptional year. We’re thrilled to be back in Los Angeles,” said Matt Kaszanek, Director of Animation Is Film, expressing his joy and anticipation.

As an ardent movie enthusiast who appreciates animation, I’m delighted to be collaborating with Animation Is Film – a festival that honors animation as a daring, innovative art form. Every year, it gathers a fervent crowd of film lovers and animation aficionados in the vibrant heart of Los Angeles. We’re overjoyed to carry on this adventure, bonded by our mutual affection for tales told through animated mediums in all their diverse forms.

To make the announcement more impactful, the festival additionally revealed a tantalizing sneak peek of its 2025 poster, designed by French artist Camille Authouart. In 2023, Authouart’s short film “La Grande Arche” was showcased at AIF.

The Animation Is Film festival has become a significant milestone in the journey towards awards season, with numerous films debuting or gaining initial momentum here. During the 2024 edition, the Grand Jury Prize was awarded to “Flow,” which later claimed both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe. The short film that won an Oscar, “In the Shadow of the Cypress,” also had its Los Angeles premiere at AIF.

Over the past few years, notable and accolade-receiving films like “The Boy and the Heron” by Hayao Miyazaki, “Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio”, and Disney’s “Encanto” have been featured in preliminary screenings at the festival.

Established in 2017, AIF has been consistently serving a distinctive purpose within the United States by offering an elite stage for animated films. This platform showcases the art form’s complete creative possibilities.
