As a movie buff with a soft spot for animated family films, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming collaboration between Studio 100 Intl. and Lunch Films for “Halloween vs Day of the Dead.” With Celso Garcia, who has worked on projects as diverse as “The Thin Yellow Line” and the remake of “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” at the helm, this film promises to be a visual and emotional treat.
International Studio 100, based in Munich, is collaborating with Mexican animation studio Lunch Films to produce an animated family film titled “Halloween versus Day of the Dead.
This upcoming animated film, combining 2D and 3D techniques, is set to be helmed by Celso Garcia. Known as the founder of Lunch Films and represented by The Gotham Group, Garcia boasts an impressive resume. His works range from “The Thin Yellow Line,” produced by Guillermo del Toro, to “Origins: The Journey of Humankind” for National Geographic and Legendary Pictures. He also directed the Mexican adaptation of “My Best Friend’s Wedding” for Sony Pictures International and “The Great Seduction,” a comedy project for Netflix.
Gerry Cardoso, an acclaimed animation film producer and production director, has signed on to work with us. Known for co-producing “El Americano: The Movie,” which was the first animated film jointly produced by Mexico and the United States, he brings a wealth of experience to our project.
In a steampunk universe, “The Clash between Hallowstead and Dia de los Muertos City” explores the customs of Halloween and Day of the Dead. Centuries-old feud between the neighboring towns Hallowville and Day of the Dead Town has reached a boiling point, and it’s up to their most unassuming and guileless inhabitants – the children – to restore peace.
The narrative revolves around Pumpkid, a young resident of Halloween Town, and Bony Lu, a girl hailing from Day of the Dead City. In partnership with a band of companions, they embark on a remarkable quest to mend the strife between their disputing hometowns and citizens.
The movie is filled with a mix of whimsy and laughter, delving into everlasting themes such as camaraderie, kinship, and personal growth,” as expressed in the statement.
Garcia stated: “The movie will honor and illuminate both festivities and their cultures. The story of these two kids, born into feuding villages but working towards healing their divided communities, is universal and ageless and has never been more pertinent. Our goal is to create a stunning adventure of friendship, bravery, and optimism, as seen through the perspective of these children.
Thorsten Wegener, head of business operations at Studio 100 Intl., expressed his enthusiasm: “We’re thrilled to start this creative adventure alongside Lunch Films. Our mutual love for storytelling will fuel our collaboration as we bring ‘Halloween vs Day of the Dead’ to reality.
By uniting the best aspects of two animation studios, this undertaking blends lively graphics with an emotionally moving tale. This blend is designed to captivate family audiences globally, providing a visually impressive and emotionally immersive journey that champions cultural diversity and the strength of friendships.
