Angelina Jolie Returns to Comedy in Star-Studded Movie Adaptation of NYT Bestseller Anxious People

For quite some time now, Angelina Jolie has been a prominent figure in the entertainment world, spanning multiple genres. As the daughter of actor Jon Voight, she debuted as a child actress in the film “Lookin’ to Get Out” back in 1982. However, it was her role in “Hackers” in 1995 that truly captured public attention. In the comedy “Playing by Heart,” released in 1998, she continued to showcase her acting skills before delving back into drama with “Girl, Interrupted” in 1999. Her career reached new heights in 2005 when she starred alongside Brad Pitt in the spy comedy “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.”

In recent times, I’ve noticed my career progression has been a bit slower, but it’s leaned more towards the dramatic spectrum. Last year, I made my Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in “Eternals,” followed by a three-year break from acting. However, I recently graced the screen once again for the biopic “Maria,” which garnered me praise and some speculation regarding a Best Actress nomination snub.

Now, I’m preparing to transition back into comedy with my upcoming movie. In other words, I’ll be returning to acting and delving into comedy roles again soon.

Angelina Jolie Takes On Anxious People

The Movie Is Based On A Book

Angelina Jolie has been confirmed to headline a film version of the book “The Anxious People“, originally a humorous and enigmatic novel penned by Fredrik Backman. The novel first appeared in Swedish in 2019, with an English translation following two years later in 2021. The story revolves around a bank robber who, after a botched heist, finds himself holding a group of individuals hostage within an apartment complex. Previously, this book was adapted into a Netflix miniseries consisting of six episodes.

According to Deadline, Angelina Jolie is set to star in the upcoming film titled “The Anxious People.” The movie will be directed by Marc Foster, with a screenplay penned by David Magee. The production of this film will be overseen by Black Bear and Hope Studios, with Fredrik Wikström Nicastro, Renée Wolfe, Forster, and Neda Backman serving as producers.

What This Means For Anxious People

Backman Has Had A Similar Adaptation Before

As a cinephile, I can’t help but share some intriguing parallels between my favorite authors. Fredrik Backman, who shot to fame with the bestseller “A Man Called Ove,” seems to have a story pattern similar to his latest work, “Anxious People.” Just like “A Man Called Otto” (the Hollywood adaptation of “A Man Called Ove”), “Anxious People” first graced our screens in a Swedish version before it made its way into a Tom Hanks-led Hollywood film. The box office success of “A Man Called Otto,” which earned a whopping $113.3 million worldwide, makes me optimistic about the prospects of “Anxious People.” After all, both are adaptations of Backman’s novels and boast A-list Hollywood talent in leading roles.
