Andy Serkis Joins Buzzy French Animation Special ‘A Lamb’s Stew’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Renowned actor Andy Serkis is set to appear in “A Lamb’s Stew,” an upcoming animated television special, which was conceived and will be helmed by Joeri Christiaen.

Renowned for his iconic motion-capture roles as Gollum in “The Lord of the Rings” and Caesar in “Planet of the Apes”, Serkis is part of a star-studded lineup that includes British actor T’Nia Miller, known from “Sex Education”, and young debutant Iris Onyejiuwa.

Developed collaboratively by French studio La Cabane Productions and Belgian co-producer Thuristar, this half-hour special is characterized as a contemporary fairy tale suitable for all ages. Andy Serkis will contribute his voice to the Wolf, a key figure in this inspiring story that explores themes of courage, compassion, and seeing beyond superficial differences.

Christiaen mentioned that Andy Serkis’ portrayal of Caesar in ‘Planet of the Apes’ was a significant influence when creating the character of the Wolf. Interestingly, he never thought T’Nia Miller would be cast in the role, but her powerful performance in the teaser convinced him to make Miss Shearlington a pivotal figure in the story. He is equally thrilled to collaborate with newcomer Iris Onyejiuwa, who will be making her film debut playing this character.

A Tale of Courage for a Little Lamb named Billie illustrates how this small lamb sets out to demonstrate that every sheep possesses courage equal to other animals. She concocts a strategy to entice a wolf into a trap, but soon discovers that perhaps the wolf isn’t as fearsome as she was led to believe. This story challenges preconceived notions and champions individuality, encapsulated in its motto: “Judge not a sheep by its fleece or a wolf by its fur!

This movie showcases stunning CG animation, created with the open-source Blender software, which was also used in this year’s Oscar-winning animated feature “Flow.” By combining realistic textures and the charm of stop-motion style, it brings its fantastical universe to vivid life. The film features both 3D and 2D scenes.

Perrine Gauthier is responsible for creating the original mid-length film titled “A Lamb’s Stew,” which marks La Cabane and Thuristar’s first venture into this genre. They have previously gained international acclaim through their work on “Mush-Mush & the Mushables” and the short film “Luce and the Rock.” The production of this project has been jointly funded by the European Union, as well as receiving support from the CNC, Procirep, and Angoa.

During the initial stages of its creation, Christiaen worked closely with Claire Paoletti (“Shoom’s Odyssey”) and in the later stages, he partnered with script editor Julia Smuts Louw (“Star Wars: Visions – Aau’s Song”) on the final draft of the movie’s script.

At the Cartoon Forum in Toulouse, the sneak peek for “A Lamb’s Stew” was presented, marking the debut of Miller and Onyejiuwa in a teaser. With the inclusion of Serkis in the voice cast, this special is gearing up to be a remarkable addition to the upcoming family animation lineup.
