Andrew Garfield Says, ‘I Had to Work Very Hard to Have Less People Ask Questions About Spider-Man’ at Marrakech Festival Press Conference

As a dedicated cinephile who has had the privilege of witnessing the evolution of cinema, I can’t help but feel an immense sense of admiration for these talented individuals who are not only masters of their craft but also passionate advocates for the global language of film.

At the Marrakech Film Festival, where he’s a member of Luca Guadagnino’s jury with Jacob Elordi, Andrew Garfield mentioned that he has made significant efforts to minimize queries related to his role in “Spider-Man.

He chuckled and said, ‘I’m definitely not done yet with this project, it’s quite complex.’ He was responding to a query regarding his involvement in the superhero series.

Garfield expressed his gratitude for the past experience, stating that it “offered him a potential chance to collaborate more readily with directors such as Martin Scorsese immediately afterward.

It seems likely that Marty managed to produce a personal project featuring an actor known for portraying Spider-Man in the lead role as a Jesuit priest from the 1600s in Japan. The fact that this movie was made with assistance from Spider-Man is quite remarkable, according to Garfield, who was discussing Scorsese’s 2016 film ‘Silence.’

At the opening of the Marrakech Film Festival, Guadagnino expressed his affection for Morocco and its connection to his personal history. After Garfield’s comments about the super-hero franchise, he unexpectedly shared that he found “Spider-Man” to be an intriguing superhero.

Guadagnino recalled when Sam Raimi directed his first Spider-Man film, and he was around 28 or 29 years old. Being somewhat of a power-hungry individual, he harbored dreams about being given the chance to direct it himself. So, he expressed his regret that he didn’t get the opportunity to direct the Spider-Man movie you see before us, Garfield, who was seated on his left at the time. Notably, Guadagnino did direct Garfield in the thriller “After the Hunt,” which also featured Julia Roberts.

Garfield mentioned his collaboration on “After the Hunt,” stating, “For 15 years, Luca and I have been striving to work together, and this summer, we finally achieved it.” He expressed that some of the most profound moments in his life have come from witnessing different cultures’ creative processes, citing his experiences working with Japanese actors in “Silence” and Iranian director Ramin Barhani on “99 Homes.” Garfield concluded by saying, “We all yearn to live multiple lives and connect with as much of the world and life as possible.

Apart from expressing his ambition to collaborate with renowned director Guadagnino, Elordi neither confirmed nor denied rumors about starring in Guadagnino’s upcoming “American Psycho” film. When asked directly, he responded with a smile, saying “That’s news to me.” Upon being prompted to look at Guadagnino, he nodded.

Elordi expressed his desire to collaborate with a filmmaker from each country globally, emphasizing that cinema serves as an extraordinary universal language he’s barely begun to grasp. His ambition lies in working with diverse filmmakers, individuals, and various film genres.

More to come.
