Andrew Garfield in AI Thriller?

Despite Hollywood not being able to halt Luca Guadagnino’s cinematic pursuits, he is swiftly progressing with an alternative movie project outside of his DC Universe film Sgt. Rock, which has been postponed until 2026.

As reported, the filmmaker who was nominated for an Oscar for Call Me By Your Name is planning to team up once more with Andrew Garfield in a new project titled Artificial. Insiders suggest that this film will center around the tumultuous time at OpenAI, an artificial intelligence company, during which CEO Sam Altman was both fired and re-hired within a few days in 2023. At this point, however, it’s important to note that Guadagnino and Garfield are still discussing terms for their participation in the movie.

Discussions are underway for the upcoming movie, and it seems that Monica Barbaro (from A Complete Unknown) and Yura Borisov (from Anora) might join the cast if all negotiations are successful. If everything falls into place, the filming of Artificial, a project penned by Simon Rich, could take place this year. Initially planned for summer 2021, Guadagnino’s production of Sgt. Rock was put on hold in late April. However, it appears that DC might reconsider Sgt. Rock at the end of this year, potentially pushing its production to next summer.

Justin Kuritzkes, who authored Guadagnino’s “Challengers” and “Queer”, penned the screenplay for “Sgt. Rock”. The story would be set during World War II, with Sgt. Rock partnering up with a female French resistance fighter to search for the Spear of Destiny. This spear is said to have been used to pierce Jesus Christ during his crucifixion and is believed to possess extraordinary powers. However, the Nazis aim to seize it before they can.

Luca Guadagnino Will Once Again Call Amazon Home

Artificial reconnects Guadagnino with Amazon MGM Studios once more, having been the studio behind his 2023 hit romantic sports film “Challengers.” This drama centers around the intense rivalry between tennis players Art Donaldson (Mike Faist) and Patrick Zweig (Josh O’Connor), both fierce opponents on and off the court as they vie for the affections of injured tennis star-turned coach Tashi (). While “Challengers” didn’t break box office records ($96 million worldwide), it earned critical acclaim, boasting an impressive 88% approval rating among critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

Amazon is involved in the production of Nora Garrett’s upcoming thriller film titled “After the Hunt“. The plot revolves around a college professor who is compelled to confront her hidden past when one of her colleagues is implicated in a severe allegation. Among the star-studded cast are Andrew Garfield, Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri, Michael Stuhlbarg, Chloë Sevigny, and Lío Mehiel, with others. The filming for “After the Hunt” took place over a span of six weeks in mid-2024. A limited screening of the movie is scheduled for October 10, 2025, followed by a wider release the subsequent week.
