Andor” Star Joplin Sibtain Joins “House of the Dragon

Joplin Sibtain, a regular character in Disney+’s Andor, will be making an appearance in Westeros for House of the Dragon. In the Star Wars franchise’s science fiction series, he portrayed Cassian Andor’s colleague and friend, Brasso. Following a heartrending performance in a Season 2 episode, Sibtain has been cast in George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal’s series.

As reported by Deadline, actor Sibtain has landed a part in the upcoming Season 3 of “House of the Dragon.” This popular fantasy drama made its debut on HBO in 2022 and is welcoming several new cast members this season. Sibtain will portray Ser Jon Roxton, who is known as “Bold,” while Tom Cullen (known for his roles in “The Gold” and “Trepasses”) will play Ser Luthor Largent. In addition, Barry Sloane, previously seen in 43 episodes of ABC’s “Revenge,” has been cast as Ser Adrian Redfort. The anticipation for “House of the Dragon” continues to build, with even more newcomers joining the series. Other recent additions include James Norton as Ormund Hightower, Tommy Flanagan as Lord Roderick Dustin, and Dan Fogler as Ser Torrhen Manderly.

In the upcoming season, Matt Smith (as Prince/ King Consort Daemon Targaryen), Emma D’Arcy (as Princess/ Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen), Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower, Rhaenyra’s long-time friend), and Steve Toussaint (Lord Corlys Velaryon) will be joining the cast. Meanwhile, Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Gylnn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, Matthew Needham, and Tom Bennett will carry on with their roles. If you’re a fan of Kieran Bew, Kurt Egyiawan, Freddie Fox, Clinton Liberty, Gayle Rankin, and Abubakar Salim’s characters, they will be making their return in the upcoming season as well.

House of the Dragon is set 200 years prior to the events portrayed in Game of Thrones, and it’s the second TV series within George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” collection. The storyline is derived from sections of his 2018 book, “Fire & Blood,” which narrates the history of House Targaryen, a royal family who reigned over Westeros’ Seven Kingdoms.

Joplin Sibtain Said He Used To Play “Bad Guys” Before the Role of Brasso in ‘Andor’

When Joplin Sibtain learned he’d be playing the character Brasso in Andor, it took him by surprise, even though it turned out to be an excellent opportunity. You see, Sibtain was accustomed to portraying villains before this role came along. In 2023, during the Europe Star Wars Celebration (which was streamed live on StarWars.com), he shared his insights about preparing for the Brasso character. Interestingly enough, playing a decent character like Brasso represented quite a leap for him.

Previously, I portrayed villainous characters, making it quite a shift for me to embody a decent individual instead. The character Brasso is trustworthy, steady, and dependable; he’s straightforward, without any hidden agendas – just an honest man. His personality isn’t intricate or complex; he’s simply a straightforward person. Essentially, it involves maintaining his integrity. He works in a ship-breaking yard, dismantling large vessels. Given my past experience with manual labor, the physical aspect of this role felt familiar to me as an actor, which isn’t always provided in scripts. You have to extract your opportunities from the small pieces given to you.
