Caution: This post discloses spoilers for the first three episodes of Andor season 2, the latest Star Wars series. The premiere was a stunning start to the show and several scenes left me utterly amazed. Released all at once on the same night, each week offers a whole Star Wars movie’s worth of content. Therefore, there’s much to discuss in these new storylines.
In the second season of ‘Andor’, episodes 1 to 3 are all part of the same year on the ‘Star Wars’ timeline: 4 BBY. Each group of three episodes will advance a year until the end of the season brings us straight to the events leading up to ‘Rogue One’ and ‘A New Hope’ in 0 BBY. With that context in mind, here are the top ten most significant moments from episodes 1-3 of ‘Andor’ season 2.
10. Andor Steals The Empire’s Coolest TIE Fighter
The Prototype TIE Avenger
Starting off with a significant covert operation, the pilferage of a TIE Avenger prototype by Cassian Andor initiates an exhilarating scene for the new season. The Avenger, in particular, is a clever reference back to the popular TIE Fighter video game from the 90s. However, the mission itself offers a visually stunning, blockbuster-esque thrill ride as Cassian grapples with operating the state-of-the-art ship, given its innovative features not typical of common TIEs. Furthermore, the dialogue between Cassian and the Sienar testing facility worker/Rebel sympathizer who aids him is expertly penned: “You’re finding your way back to yourself.
9. Director Krennic’s Search For Unlimited Power in Andor Season 2
All Part of Project Stardust (The Death Star)
At the Maltheen Divide, a clandestine Imperial conference is taking place, and it’s thrilling to see Director Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) back again, given the ominous atmosphere surrounding this confidential gathering. Gathering the brightest minds of the Empire, Krennic aims to strategize and ready the mining of a unique energy source for the Death Star. However, it’s worth noting that this undertaking will come at a heavy price: the lives of 800,000 inhabitants from planet Ghorman, whose home world will be laid waste by aggressive strip mining, causing instability in its core. The goal is to secure “unlimited power” for the Emperor.
An important occurrence in the Star Wars saga, the Ghorman Massacre, has long been shrouded in mystery…but that’s about to change. As hinted earlier, this grim incident will be depicted in upcoming episodes of Andor season 2. This portrayal will reportedly inspire Mon Mothma to abandon the Imperial Senate following her condemnation of the massacre. Quite unexpectedly, it is revealed that Krennic and the Death Star project are implicated in the horrific event, adding a shocking twist to the storyline. This revelation proves to be both surprising and a masterful move on the part of the creators.
8. Andor Season 2, Episode 1’s Epic Final Shot
Blasterfire Over Cassian’s Shoulder
In the opening scenes of “Andor” season 2, episode 1, Cassian is taken captive by stranded members of the Maya Pei Brigade, who believe him to be an Imperial pilot. This misunderstanding leads these hungry and desperate soldiers into heated debates over piloting the TIE fighter and which of them should depart the planet first upon resolution. As tensions escalate, gunfire erupts, ultimately dividing the group at the episode’s conclusion. The climax is marked by a chaotic series of events that culminates in a blaster bolt being fired directly at the camera, just inches from Cassian’s shoulder, as the credits begin to roll.
7. An Imperial Sitcom With Dedra Meero and Syril Karn
Andor Season 2, Episodes 2-3
In season 2 of Andor, Dedra Meero and Syril Karn reappear, having moved in together on Coruscant following the incidents at Ferrix. There’s an amusing scene where they nervously set up a dinner with Syril’s demanding mother, making the series feel like a comical Imperial sitcom for a moment – which isn’t a negative aspect at all. The dialogue between Dedra and Syril’s mother is sharp and witty, and even Syril’s reaction, feigning helplessness by lying on the bed in another room, adds to the humor.
6. Andor Season 2’s Epic Yavin IV Reveal
Revealing Its Origins With The Rebellion
After Cassian successfully breaks free from the Maya Pei Brigade within the TIE Avenger, it is disclosed that this group had been marooned on none other than Yavin 4, a jungle moon that later served as one of the initial bases for the Rebel Alliance following its complete unification. In the year 4 BBY, Yavin 4 appears to have started as a secluded meeting point where cells could share intelligence, supplies, and other resources (except when Rebels were engaged in internal conflicts).
5. Niamos! In Andor Season 2
A New Remix (With A Disco Droid!)
At Mon Mothma’s daughter’s wedding on Chandrila, an unseen droid in the Star Wars universe floated above the dance floor, emitting music and resembling a cosmic disco ball. What made it more intriguing was that the droid was spinning a fresh remix of “Niamos!”, a tune popularized across the galaxy through various versions in Andor’s first season. Originating from Niamos planet, this catchy melody served as a delightful reference to the initial season and sounded fantastic, particularly in this lively wedding version.
4. Mon Mothma’s Dance of Desperation
A Truly Powerful For The Major Star Wars Leader
As the tune “Niamos!” starts to echo, Senator Mon Mothma concludes a somber discussion with Luthen concerning her financially risky ally, Tay Kolma, who has turned into a burden. Overwhelmed by anxiety about her future and strained relationships with her husband and daughter, she feels powerless, prompting her to resort to the one action that seems possible in that instant: drinking and dancing. This emotional, tragic scene is masterfully portrayed as Mothma transforms into the focal point of the throng of dancers, appearing as if she’s right in the heart of a tempestuous storm.
3. Bix Caleen’s Brutal Scene In Andor Season 2, Episode 3
An Incredibly Dark First For Star Wars
Undeniably, Bix Caleen’s distressing ordeal involving an Imperial officer who tries to assault her marks a grim milestone in the Star Wars series. Previously, allusions to sexual abuse have been hinted at in Star Wars (such as Jabba the Hutt and Leia Organa), but none have been portrayed with such unflinching clarity as in Andor season 2, episode 3. The scene has sparked heated discussions online, yet it powerfully illustrates the harsh reality and far-reaching consequences of oppressive and authoritarian rule, as well as the misuse of power that such regimes often foster.
Rape has often been used as a brutal weapon against powerless groups, particularly during wars and under oppressive governments. In this instance, Bix is forced into a dire situation where she must defend herself by killing an Imperial officer who was attempting to abuse her. This grim truth sadly resonates in this period of the Star Wars timeline, as the Empire wields unchecked power, allowing them to commit heinous acts without consequence. This underscores the necessity for rebellion in the galaxy.
2. Brasso’s Death
The True Cost of Rebellion
Similarly, the debut of Andor‘s second season underscores that challenging oppressive entities such as the Empire invariably brings a steep price. Regrettably, lives are lost in the pursuit of freedom, which is seldom achieved without conflict and, too frequently, violence. It’s particularly heartrending to witness Brasso’s demise at the hands of Imperial stormtroopers, given that Cassian, Bix, and Wilmon were unable to give their fallen comrade and ally a proper burial.
1. The Andor Season 2 Premiere’s Dark Cliffhanger
Luthen Taking Care of Tay Kolma
In the second season of “Andor,” Tay Kolma’s personal problems and strife in his business and marriage have put him in a precarious position, making him a potential threat to Mon Mothma. This, in turn, poses a risk to Luthen Rael and the rebel network he leads, as Kolma was instrumental in helping Mothma establish her foundation in the first season of “Andor.” This foundation has been used covertly to finance resistance movements. However, due to his current state of discontent, Kolma could unwittingly reveal secrets about Mothma’s activities.
In the world of cinematic suspense, as a die-hard movie fan, I can’t help but feel the weight of Luthen’s predicament. His financial predicament, that is, which leads to the jaw-dropping twist at the end of the wedding festivities where Tay jumps ship, quite literally, in a speeder driven by Cinta Kaz. Cinta, one of Luthen’s trusted agents, seems to have been given a covert order: take out Tay, neutralizing any potential threat he poses to the network. If Tay does reappear in Andor season 2, it would be an electrifying surprise indeed!
In two pieces of exciting news, Andor’s second season will debut three fresh episodes every Tuesday at 9 PM Eastern Time and 6 PM Pacific Time, only on Disney+ starting now. Meanwhile, fans can look forward to Ahsoka’s second season hitting screens in the year 2026.
