The boldly titled series, due for its second and concluding season in the upcoming weeks, will debut its first installment of three episodes on Disney+ on April 22nd. In anticipation of the season opener, Gilroy has shared an unexpected tidbit: he’s had merely a single discussion with Lucas regarding the franchise.
As a movie enthusiast, I’ve shared a conversation over the phone with George Lucas just once, following the release of Rogue One. It was he who reached out to me. To my delight, this has been the sole interaction I’ve ever enjoyed with him.
In the late 1970s, Lucas devised an innovative concept for a space-set family drama, where characters would fight using staffs of light and the lead character would grapple with complex daddy issues against the franchise’s villain. Similarly, Gilroy has been deeply engrossed in creation for many years, essentially becoming “hooked” on expanding the universe initially developed by Lucas decades ago.
