Hey there fellow fans! It appears that Carrie has found herself amidst a significant family predicament at Aidan’s farm in Virginia. The rollercoaster of emotions this series never ceases to provide! Frankly, it’s becoming quite the challenge to keep pace with these twists and turns. However, her temporary escape from the city and immersion into Aidan’s world does offer a clearer perspective on their relationship – or so it seems. But honestly, things seem more complicated than Aidan has led us to believe. In fact, they seem downright dire! Oh, for the sake of simplicity, could we please revisit the days when the virgin nun was belting out tunes from ‘Wicked’ in the heart of Times Square? Those were the good old days!
At the Shaw residence, things seem to be going smoothly so far. Aidan’s sons, Homer and Wyatt, are working on painting the guest house exterior, and they’re mindful that Carrie is nearby. So far, no one has had a typical teenage outburst. In fact, Homer is particularly friendly and offers Carrie some of his clothes because, as you may remember, their rental luggage was towed away with the vehicle. (To be honest, I’m not sure about the practicalities, but it’s probably best not to delve too deeply into that.) Homer is quite a sweetheart, while Wyatt, as expected, comes off as frosty and sullen.
As Aidan invites Carrie to extend her visit for his eldest son Tate’s 21st birthday dinner, she realizes that she needs more suitable attire than teenage boy sweatpants after fretting over whether Aidan would prefer her to stay overnight or not. So, she hops on Baby’s First ATV and heads into town to find a new outfit at the nearest clothing store, which Carrie humorously calls a “sister wives dress shop.” Miranda supports her decision, explaining that Wyatt’s behavior is typical for a teen. Their family outing to a zombie VR room might not have been filled with warmth between Wyatt and Carrie, but considering the circumstances, everything seems as smooth as it could be.
Additionally, there’s a family dinner coming up. Tate, similar to Homer, is pleasant, while Kathy and Boyfriend Bob are nothing but cordial. However, Kathy does owe Carrie for supplying her with drugs, which she is aware of. Bob appears amicable, but his advice to Carrie about how it took him four years to somewhat blend in with the Shaw family feels ominous.
Carrie isn’t particularly pleased when she finds out that Aidan opposes Wyatt using Adderall or any other prescription drug. This detail was not shared with her by Kathy earlier. Aidan doesn’t hold Carrie responsible, but the tension simmering under the roof is certainly escalating.
Playing Apples to Apples can quickly escalate the already intense atmosphere in the room. With feelings of resentment and anger simmering, it doesn’t take long before Wyatt becomes increasingly frustrated that no one seems to pick his cards. His anger intensifies when his parents refer to this as family game night, reminding him that Carrie and Bob are not actually his family. The siblings Aidan and Kathy are at odds over how to deal with their youngest brother’s behavior – whether or not to medicate him becomes a contentious issue. Tate and Homer have had enough of their brother’s outbursts, and as Aidan and Kathy try to calm the situation, it only worsens until he ultimately throws an object through the window, causing distress for everyone present. Carrie watches in silent alarm as this chaotic scene unfolds.
In this situation, the positive aspect is that Carrie and Aidan have an open and sincere conversation. Although it would’ve been better if Carrie had known earlier, it seems clear that Aidan was attempting to protect her from the harsh truths. Now, he can see that Aidan needs to be with Wyatt, and this requires him to do so without Carrie – he wasn’t lying or evading her; instead, he was being genuinely concerned. Wyatt is facing difficulties, and Aidan must prioritize him. Despite Aidan interpreting their conversation as a breakup, Carrie makes it clear that she will be in New York when he’s ready, even if it takes time. To reinforce her feelings, she gives him a key to their place.
In one aspect, Carrie no longer needs to hesitate as Aidan takes the lead in decisions about their home or her life’s progression. She’s now free to purchase furniture. However, on another hand, she departs Virginia uncertain if this fresh information brings them closer together or pushes them further apart. Oh, isn’t Carrie having a lively, appealing summer? (Well, not really, but could we please see some enjoyment and less gloom in her storyline this season? It’s becoming quite depressing.)
It’s good to see that Miranda now knows where she stands with the person she likes, despite a misunderstanding that occurred during an on-air appearance for BBC. When Miranda accidentally said something inappropriate, it caused quite a stir and she fears this might have ruined her chances with Joy, especially if Joy wasn’t interested to begin with.
When Joy decides not to visit Miranda due to spending time with friends from the U.K., Carrie suggests inviting the entire group instead. If Joy declines this offer, there might be a valid reason for concern. However, if Joy agrees, trouble seems imminent when her friends start making crude jokes about Miranda upon learning she’s the “wild” lady, and Joy becomes noticeably quiet. This interaction may not last long.
When Joy prepares to depart, Miranda chooses to tackle the situation directly, which turns out to be beneficial since Joy becomes slightly subdued upon recognizing her feelings for someone – that person being Miranda themselves. The two then share a kiss on Carrie’s (new) porch. Indeed, this level of understanding is crucial in romantic relationships. Someone should inform Carrie and Aidan immediately about the developing situation.
This and That
• If the incident of urinating in tight trousers wasn’t already concerning enough, Harry frets about how aging might affect his manhood. He finds solace in discovering that his father is a frequent user on Pornhub and is involved with someone named Marilyn in apartment 10F. Harry can be quite peculiar, but I adore him.
Harry’s anxiety surrounding intimacy often sparks conversations with Charlotte about their bond, which remains strong regardless of whether or not they engage in sexual activities. These two never fail to be endearing.
In the narrative, LTW seems to find herself in a predicament involving her choice of a well-skilled male editor named Marion Odin for her groundbreaking documentary on Black feminist pioneers. This situation might also involve her internal struggles affecting her husband’s sleep, edging them towards a “sleep separation.” Although this plotline may not be particularly intriguing, the fact that Marion is quite attractive could make things interesting.
Once more, Seema declines Ryan’s job offer and bids farewell to her workplace. In an attempt to gauge her assistant’s interest, she delivers a somewhat passionate speech reminiscent of Jerry Maguire, as she embarks on starting her own real estate company. However, in the end, Seema finds herself going solo.
• I have no idea where “Lily dates a poly ballet dancer” is going and it’s probably best that way.
I’d be extremely grateful if Aidan could stop using that particular phrase, “going to the guest house to ball my calendar girl,” from now on. Thank you!
