Ancient Martial Arts Master Prepares for Epic Slap Fighting Showdown!

A Beijing resident has gained widespread attention in China by mastering an ancient martial art, originally dating back 2,000 years, with the aim of participating in a contest known as a Slap Fighting competition.

A novel martial art, dubbed “Slap Combat,” is captivating the web. This sport involves participants alternately striking one another, with notable figures such as Dana White and Power Slap contributing to its popularity.

2022 saw the widespread popularity of the sport as YouTube sensation Logan Paul joined forces with iconic figure Arnold Schwarzenegger for the Slap Fighting Championship, and today, one individual trains in an old martial art to enhance his combat skills.

36-year-old martial artist and Chinese influencer, Zhao Honggang, is preparing for a Slap Fighting competition in Japan, utilizing the ‘tongbeiquan’ technique to gain an edge against his competitors.

Man hones his skills in 2,000 year old martial art for Slap Fighting

As reported by the South China Morning Post, Honggang belongs to the ninth generation of the Qi family’s style, which is a particular branch of the martial art known as tongbeiquan.

Tongbeiquan is a martial art style that takes its cues from ape movements, focusing on harnessing strength from the spine and shoulders to execute potent hand strikes with great force.

Honggang is convinced that by perfecting this skill, he’ll gain a competitive advantage and be able to notch another accolade in the expanding catalog of martial arts accomplishments he’s amassed.

In 2024, he won first place at the initial Zhangjiakou National Martial Arts Gathering and claimed the MMA title at the Henan “Master of Kung Fu” competition.
