Anchor Bay Entertainment Acquires Worldwide Rights to Horror Film ‘Cursed in Baja’ (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned movie critic with a passion for horror films and a soft spot for complex character studies, I’m thrilled to share my initial thoughts on Anchor Bay Entertainment‘s latest acquisition, “Cursed in Baja.” With its world premiere at FrightFest Film Festival in London just around the corner on August 23rd, this intriguing horror film promises to deliver a unique blend of suspense, character development, and cultural exploration.

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve learned Anchor Bay Entertainment has secured the global rights for the chilling new horror film, “Cursed in Baja.” This terrifying masterpiece will make its grand entrance during the FrightFest Film Festival in London on August 23. Can’t wait to witness it unfold on the big screen!

I’ve always been drawn to stories about complex characters with intriguing pasts, and this film doesn’t disappoint. It introduces us to Pirelli, an ex-lawman who sets off on a journey to Mexico in search of the heir to a Los Angeles fortune. But it’s not just about the fortune; Pirelli also confronts his own complicated past along the way. The narrative skillfully weaves together these two threads, creating a compelling and engaging tale that keeps me hooked from start to finish.

Barbara Crampton and Jose Conejo Martin feature in the movie alongside Jeff Daniel Phillips. Phillips not only stars but also directs, produces, and writes the script for the film. He is recognized for his work with horror filmmaker Rob Zombie; Phillips has appeared in five of Zombie’s films, including the 2022 adaptation of “The Munsters.”

Thomas Zambeck and Brian Katz, who previously held leading roles at Umbrelic Entertainment, took over Anchor Bay Entertainment and gave it a new lease of life. They acquired the rights to the company’s trademark in order to revitalize it and focus on producing genre films and cult classics. Following Anchor Bay’s sale to Starz in 2016, which was later absorbed by Lionsgate.

The company has recently obtained the licence for the upcoming sci-fi movie “Daddy,” which was showcased at various film festivals including Dances With Films and is slated for a 2024 release.

“Zambeck expresses his excitement about welcoming Jeff and his unique perspective to Anchor Bay. The movie ‘Cursed in Baja’ is an gripping exploration of insanity that will surely earn a spot among the groundbreaking independent films with its genre-defying qualities.”

Kent Issacs works together with Phillips as co-producers. The negotiations for the deal were handled by Zambeck and Katz, representing the filmmakers, in consultation with Cole Payne from Traverse Media.
