An Evangelion/Transformers Crossover Has Been Announced

The Transformers have been a popular part of Paramount’s entertainment lineup for years, appearing in both cartoons and movies with iconic characters like Optimus Prime and Megatron. The franchise has even explored anime before, including a recent film created by the studio behind Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Kill la Kill. Now, Transformers are crossing over with another famous anime series, Evangelion, in a new collaboration coming this year.

A unique collaboration is coming this October: an action figure that combines Optimus Prime from Transformers with Unit-01 from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Called the “Transformers x Evangelion Synergenex Series Evangelion Prime Unit-01,” this figure will retail for approximately $85 USD. It’s a surprising team-up that blends the iconic designs of both franchises. The figure features Optimus Prime’s form with Unit-01’s signature purple and green color scheme and reimagined accessories. Takara Tomy describes it as the ultimate fusion of two epic franchises. You can see images of the combined figure here.

Both Evangelion and Transformers have had several crossovers recently. Evangelion‘s organization, NERV, previously battled Godzilla in a series of events created by Hideaki Anno, which also included Ultraman and Kamen Rider. Beyond the stories, there have been crossovers in merchandise, like action figures, and even at Universal Studios Japan, where a theme park ride featured a battle between NERV and Shin Godzilla.

I’m a huge Transformers fan, and while they haven’t gone all in on anime like some other series, they’ve actually done some really cool crossovers! Recently, they teamed up with Naruto, which was awesome – imagining the Hidden Leaf Village mixed with the world of Cybertron! But that’s not all – Optimus Prime and Megatron have faced off with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the Ghostbusters, and a ton of other iconic heroes and teams. It’s been wild seeing those worlds collide!

Transformers is expanding its universe with several crossovers in both animation and live-action films. A new animated series is coming to Amazon, built around Skybound’s Energon Universe, which already combines Transformers and G.I. Joe. Plus, Paramount is developing a movie that will continue the story started with the crossover teased at the end of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
