On the “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast, Amy Poehler recently disclosed that she and Meryl Streep were co-occupants of a dressing room during the “SNL50” show. Indeed, Meryl Streep gave her all when performing in the “Close Encounters” sketch on that occasion.
In Poehler’s words, “The crowd was so enormous that we had to use each other’s changing rooms. So, I ended up sharing mine with Meryl Streep. It was like being a fan myself, snapping a photo of the door labeled ‘Poehler and Meryl Streep.’ Quite a thrill, indeed!
She was thoroughly preparing for her act, practicing diligently, and at that moment, I couldn’t help but think, ‘Meryl Streep has never rehearsed with such intensity as she does right now.'” (Poehler commented)
Meryl Streep made a surprising debut on “SNL50,” marking her initial stint on “Saturday Night Live.” In the “Close Encounters” sketch, she starred alongside Kate McKinnon, Woody Harrelson, and Pedro Pascal. The continuous sketch typically has McKinnon’s character, Colleen Rafferty, sharing explicit alien encounters while smoking a cigarette. Streep took on the role of Colleen Rafferty Sr., who also had an experience with alien abduction.
As a cinema enthusiast, I can’t help but recount the stellar evening that was “SNL50” for me personally. Sharing a dressing room with the legendary Meryl Streep was an honor beyond words, but to find myself seated alongside cinematic icon Jack Nicholson in the audience was nothing short of surreal! The three-time Oscar winner graced us with his rare presence to introduce a song by none other than his “Anger Management” cohort, Adam Sandler. What a night to remember!
One evening, surrounded by notable figures, I found myself seated next to Jack Nicholson. With a chuckle, Poehler commented, ‘And who should I find on my left but my old pal, the esteemed Jack Nicholson.”
