‘America’s Got Talent’: Jason Raff Out as Showrunner After 19 Seasons Due to Budget Cuts

As a seasoned movie buff with over two decades of immersion in the world of television, I must say that the news of Jason Raff‘s departure from “America’s Got Talent” feels like a bittersweet goodbye. His tenure spanning all seasons and spinoffs is nothing short of remarkable, especially considering the ever-changing landscape of reality TV.

Following a run of 19 seasons as showrunner on “America’s Got Talent”, Jason Raff is stepping down because of budget restrictions. In the future, the reality competition show will be overseen by Sam Donnelly, who had previously shared showrunning responsibilities with Raff.

After finishing its 19th season on NBC in September, ‘America’s Got Talent’ informed Raff that he would no longer be a part of the show. Raff has been associated with the series since it first aired in 2006, while Donnelly joined in 2014 during Season 9.

Raff has been instrumental in creating and overseeing every spinoff of the flagship series, such as “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” (aired from 2019 to 2020), “AGT: Extreme” (aired in 2022), “America’s Got Talent: All-Stars” (premiered in 2023 and has completed one season), and “America’s Got Talent: Fantasy League” (debuted earlier this year and has finished its first season as well).

Simon Cowell is the brain behind “America’s Got Talent” and continues to be a part of the esteemed judging panel, joined by Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, and Sofia Vergara. Currently, Terry Crews hosts the show. Over time, other judges such as Brandy, Mel B, David Hasselhoff, Julianne Hough, Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne, Howard Stern, and Gabrielle Union have also served on the panel. Past hosts include Regis Philbin, Jerry Springer, Nick Cannon, and Tyra Banks.

I had the pleasure of watching the 19th season of “America’s Got Talent,” which aired from May and concluded in September. Cowell and Donnelly were the executive producers, while Fremantle and Syco Entertainment jointly produced this captivating series. It was Richard Goodall who eventually earned the title of the winner.

Deadline was first to report the news of Raff’s departure.
