‘American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez’ Trailer: NFL Star’s Murder Conviction Comes to Light in Ryan Murphy’s FX Series

As a sports enthusiast with a knack for true crime narratives, I can hardly contain my excitement for “American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez.” The trailer alone sends chills down my spine and brings back memories of the shocking headlines that dominated the sports world a decade ago.

The trailer for FX’s “American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez” has been unveiled.

The ten-episode restricted TV show debuts on FX on September 17, airing the first two episodes. This series delves into the life story and family history of American Football player Aaron Hernandez, including his acts of violence, murder conviction, and his subsequent suicide.

Josh Andrés Rivera, known for roles in “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” and “West Side Story”, plays the character Hernandez. Drafted to the New England Patriots as a tight end in 2010, he spent three seasons with the team. Before joining the Patriots, he played football at the University of Florida. In this movie, Patrick Schwarzenegger embodies Tim Tebow, Hernandez’s former Florida Gators teammate who was an emerging NFL quarterback.

During the off-season of 2013, Aaron Hernandez faced arrest and charges related to the murder of a man named Odin Lloyd. Following his conviction, he took his own life while imprisoned in 2017.

The show, being the initial part of the sports anthology series titled “American Sports Story,” draws inspiration from the podcast “Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc.” produced by The Boston Globe and Wondery.

20th Television produces the series, which was creatively overseen by Stu Zicherman. Co-producing alongside him are Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, and Carl Franklin. Hernan Lopez and Marshall Lewy of Wondery also serve as executive producers, along with Linda Pizutti Henry and Ira Napoliello from the Boston Globe.

“The series ‘American Sports Story’ belongs to the ‘American Story’ collection on FX, alongside shows such as ‘American Horror Story’, ‘American Horror Stories’, and ‘American Crime Story’.”
