‘American Love Story’ Moving Forward With John F. Kennedy Jr.-Carolyn Bessette Season: It ‘Really Resonates Right Now’

As a movie enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in the rich tapestry of narratives that television offers, I must say the expansion of the “American Story” franchise at FX is an exciting development. The upcoming series, “American Love Story,” delving into the story of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, promises to be a captivating addition to the roster.

As a passionate film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the “American Story” franchise under FX is continuing its growth. The dynamic duo, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, who have been collaborating with Ryan Murphy since the debut of “American Crime Story” back in 2016 (and served as executive producers on the series “Pose”), have confirmed that a new installment titled “American Love Story” is in the works. This intriguing series will delve into the captivating tale of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, promising another engaging chapter in the “American Story” saga.

Jacobson shared with EbMaster during a recent interview that he plans to definitely share that particular story.

Simpson commented, ‘We’ve got fantastic content on it, we’re just deciding when it will debut. This tale is particularly relevant at the moment and it’s incredible. Many young women view her as a symbol of a specific era, one that’s truly captivating. We hope to share this on screen soon.’

2021 saw the unveiling of a new American Crime Story series, titled “Studio 54,” which was intended to be the fourth installment in the ACS franchise after “People vs. OJ Simpson,” “The Assassination of Gianni Versace,” and “Impeachment.” At present, there’s no recent news about Studio 54, suggesting that its production may not be imminent.

We won’t be able to reveal anything in the future due to an incident where Ryan mentioned ‘Studio 54’. This statement has been echoed for over a decade, causing reporters to consistently bring up this topic during interviews. It’s not that we’re hiding something; rather, we’re testing the waters and seeing what ideas gain traction. If we announce something prematurely, it tends to become a widely-known fact, similar to an entry on Wikipedia.

There are several options being considered as potential stories for the fourth part of “Crime Story”, but a final choice hasn’t been made yet.

At the moment, our team is working diligently on an exciting new project – the premier episode of “American Sports Story,” which delves into the life story of Aaron Hernandez. The series will make its debut by airing the first two episodes on FX on September 17th, with subsequent weekly releases following suit.
