‘American Dad’ Nears Deal to Return to Fox After Wrapping Up TBS Run

“American Dad!” could soon be airing on Fox — again.

EbMaster reports that discussions are almost finalized between 20th Television Animation and Fox Entertainment for the revival of the popular long-running animated sitcom, initially aired on this network in 2005. If the deal goes through, it is expected to be a multi-season commitment.

News about the Fox deal surfaces as “American Dad!” is gearing up to broadcast its final original episodes on TBS, a channel that has been hosting the show since 2014. Repeats of “American Dad!” will keep airing on TBS and other Warner Bros. Discovery networks like Adult Swim and TruTV until at least 2030. The series was last renewed for two more seasons on TBS in 2021, before the merger between Warner Bros. and Discovery was finalized.

The animated series ‘American Dad!’ was developed by Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker, and Matt Weitzman, and is currently overseen by co-executive producers Weitzman and Brian Boyle. This production comes from the studio of 20th Century Fox Television.

For the second time, a MacFarlane series is coming back to Fox. Earlier, “Family Guy” was broadcast on this network, but it was taken off air. However, high DVD sales and repeated telecasts on Adult Swim led Fox to revive the show again.
