AMC Strikes Deal With Netflix to Stream ‘Interview With the Vampire,’ ‘Walking Dead’ Spinoffs and More

As a film enthusiast with a deep appreciation for both cable television and streaming platforms, I find this latest development between AMC and Netflix to be an exciting turn of events. The announcement that 15 AMC shows, including “Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire” and “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon,” will now be available on Netflix is music to my ears.

Netflix will now be able to stream “Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire,” along with other AMC shows including “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon,” due to a recent agreement between the two networks.

Starting August 19, Netflix will offer a contract to make the first seasons of thirteen AMC shows available for one year. The lineup includes “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” (Season 1), “Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire” (Season 1), “Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches” (Season 1), “Monsieur Spade” (Season 1), “A Discovery of Witches” (Seasons 1-3), “Dark Winds” (Seasons 1-2), “Fear the Walking Dead” (Seasons 1-8), “Gangs of London” (Seasons 1-2), “Into the Badlands” (Seasons 1-3), “Kevin can F*** Himself” (Seasons 1-2), “Preacher” (Seasons 1-4), “That Dirty Black Bag” (Season 1) and “The Terror” (Season 1).

As a movie critic, I’m thrilled to share that starting January 13th, two new series within the “Walking Dead” universe will debut on Netflix for my viewing pleasure. The first one is titled “The Walking Dead: Dead City,” and the second one is called “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.” I can’t wait to see how these stories unfold and contribute to the larger “Walking Dead” narrative.

Moreover, both the latest AMC series and the existing 11 seasons of “The Walking Dead” on Netflix will be accessible ad-free on the standard Netflix plan.

AMC aims to attract a larger viewership for its less-known but critically praised shows by leveraging Netflix’s massive user base (with 269.6 million subscribers compared to AMC’s 11.5 million). This could potentially generate significant buzz, similar to the impact “Breaking Bad” experienced.

In 2023, AMC experimented with a comparable approach by making “Fear the Walking Dead” and six other shows available on Max for a limited two-month period. According to a reliable insider, this marketing move generated increased interest in these series and attracted viewers back to AMC’s own platforms. This suggests that AMC is not overly worried about subscribers leaving AMC+.

As a longtime fan of high-quality television shows, I’m thrilled about the recent announcement made by Kristin Dolan, CEO of AMC Networks. In her statement, she expressed that this new agreement between AMC and Netflix will allow their excellent programs to reach an even larger audience through the vast subscriber base of Netflix. As someone who has always appreciated the AMC brand and its award-winning content, I believe this expansion of their relationship is a win-win situation for both parties.

As a longtime fan of binge-watching my favorite shows on Netflix, I can’t help but feel excited about the recent addition of popular titles from Warner Bros. Discovery. Having grown up with shows like “Insecure,” “Ballers,” and “Six Feet Under,” it brings back nostalgic memories and adds to my ever-growing list of must-watch content. The arrival of “Sex and the City” was the cherry on top, instantly shooting up the Top 10 chart and leaving me glued to my screen. It’s clear that Netflix is continuously enhancing its library with quality content from various distributors, making my streaming experience even more enjoyable.

At the moment when AMC is going through significant changes, Kristin Dolan, who is married to James Dolan, the network’s owner, took over as the CEO of AMC Networks on February 27, 2023. Following her appointment, she resigned from the company’s board on March 10. Prior to this role, Dolan had established and led TV analytics firm 605.

As a passionate cinema enthusiast, I’ve always kept a close eye on the latest news from AMC Networks. In November 2022, Christina Spade, who had been CFO before becoming CEO for only a short while, unexpectedly stepped down from her position as CEO. Matt Blank served as interim CEO in her absence, but he too soon departed, leaving James Dolan to take on the role of interim executive chairman. With Spade and Blank both gone, there was an urgent need to find a new CEO for AMC Networks.

In Q1 of this year, AMC Networks gained some new streaming subscribers. However, there was a 13% decrease in US advertising revenue, and they faced challenges in the upfronts market due to competition from traditional TV broadcasts.
