During the Triple-I Initiative, studio 11 Bit Studios revealed that their sci-fi title, The Alters, would debut on June 13 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. This game will also be available for immediate access on Game Pass for both Xbox and PC users on the same day.
If you haven’t heard the news yet, here’s a recap: The game titled ‘The Alters’ places you in the role of Jan Dolski, the solitary survivor of a disastrous space mission that resulted in his spaceship crashing on an unfamiliar and dangerous planet. With only three days until the next sunrise, which will destroy both the mobile base and him, Jan must find a way to restart it. The challenge? There are no available human or mineral resources for this task. However, Jan possesses the unique ability to clone himself. Each new clone, or ‘Alter’, is a different version of Jan based on various decisions he made throughout his life.
As you accumulate more distinct Alters, your chances of enduring improve significantly. However, the task at hand is complex, for you’ll be overseeing a diverse band of Jans, each with their own set of abilities, temperaments, and recollections stemming from different life decisions. In addition to this intricate social management, players must also prioritize maintaining their mobile headquarters and navigating the perils that populate the game’s surroundings. This unique title offers a blend of survival, base construction, and discovery experiences.
In Jake Dekker’s review for TopMob’s The Alters preview, he noted that from his practical experience, 11 Bit Studios has skillfully combined different game genres in a harmonious manner. He explained that no single feature or system overpowered the others and each one served a distinct purpose that aligned with the game’s storyline. Despite the fact that The Alters appears to juggle multiple aspects, Dekker warned that a minor misstep could cause everything to collapse. If 11 Bit Studios can successfully meld these diverse genres and delve deeply into its themes, Dekker believes The Alters could turn out to be exceptional.
The launch date for The Alters positions it intriguingly amidst the gaming schedule. It’s set to debut shortly following the worldwide release of Nintendo Switch 2, and the same month will see other titles like Death Stranding 2: On The Beach and the remastered System Shock 2 hitting the market as well.
