John Krasinski, known for his role in The Office, is expanding his action hero persona beyond the popular TV series Jack Ryan. After four successful seasons, the show will conclude with a movie instead of a fifth season, giving fans a new way to follow Jack Ryan’s adventures.
The series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan premiered in 2018 and marked a shift for actor John Krasinski, best known for his role in The Office. He traded in his familiar, relatable comedic persona for a more heroic one, while still maintaining that approachable quality that made him so popular.
The story starts with a new CIA analyst noticing strange money transfers. This discovery quickly takes him from a safe office job and throws him into a dangerous chase across Europe and the Middle East. Since then, Ryan has faced numerous threats – he’s stopped conspiracies in South America, been wrongly accused of treason and gone undercover, and ultimately risen to a leadership position as Acting Deputy Director of the CIA. In his current role, he continues to expose dangerous plots involving drug cartels and terrorists.
It’s been three years since Jack Ryan last battled to protect global freedom in Season 4. While a movie continuation was announced in 2024, updates have been scarce—until now. Wendell Pierce, who co-starred with John Krasinski in the series and is known for his role in The Wire, recently shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the upcoming Jack Ryan movie will be released in a few months. Pierce detailed his work schedule through 2026 on social media, confirming the movie’s release date of May 2026.
Upcoming in 2026:
JACK RYAN (Amazon) May
POWERBOOK III: RAISING KANAN (Starz) June 12
OTHELLO (STC) May 19-June 21
ELSBETH (CBS) Season 4

In addition to reprising his role in Jack Ryan, Wood Harris will appear in Starz’s Power Book III: Raising Kanan and star in a new production of Shakespeare’s Othello at the Shakespeare Theatre Company. While he’s a versatile actor, Harris is widely recognized for his memorable performance as Detective Bunk Moreland in The Wire. He’ll be back as James Greer, Jack Ryan’s supervisor and the CIA’s deputy director, in the upcoming film, which is now confirmed to be released later this year thanks to Harris’s involvement.
Jack Ryan has appeared in several movies before, including films starring Alec Baldwin (The Hunt for Red October), Harrison Ford (Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger), Ben Affleck (The Sum of All Fears), and Chris Pine (Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit). Now that Amazon has successfully adapted the Tom Clancy character for television, it will be fascinating to see what new story they tell in the next Jack Ryan movie.
