Amazon MGM Studios is working on a television adaptation of the novel “A Day of Fire: A Novel of Pompeii,” which I’ve learned will be a limited series, exclusively.
The book was penned by a team consisting of Kate Quinn, Stephanie Dray, Ben Kane, Eliza Knight, Sophie Perinot, and Vicky Alvear. Michael Hirst and Horatio Hirst assume the roles of writers, executive producers, and showrunners. Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, Clayton Krueger, and Sharon Hughff will act as executive producers on behalf of Scott Free Productions. Amazon MGM Studios will handle the production.
The story unfolds in the days preceding the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius, an event that obliterated Pompeii and claimed numerous lives among its inhabitants. It delves into a collection of interwoven narratives about the everyday lives of people residing in Pompeii prior to the sky’s sudden downpour of fire.
Scott Free’s forthcoming television lineup features “Blade Runner 2099” on Amazon Prime Video and “Alien: Earth” on FX.
Michael Hirst is recognized for crafting historical television series such as “Vikings,” “The Tudors,” and “Billy the Kid.” The latter has recently been renewed for a third and final season on MGM+. Aside from that, he served as an executive producer on the Netflix spin-off of “Vikings,” titled “Vikings: Valhalla.” In cinema, he is renowned for penning “Elizabeth” and co-writing its sequel “Elizabeth: The Golden Age,” both of which featured Cate Blanchett as Queen Elizabeth I of England. Horatio Hirst portrayed Charlie Bowdre in “Billy the Kid” and Bishop Grimketel in “Vikings: Valhalla.” If the project progresses to a series, it will signify his debut in television writing.
Michael’s representation includes United Agents, William Morris Endeavor (WME), and Nelson Davis. The agreement concerning the book’s rights was facilitated by Lucy Stille at Lucy Stille Literary, acting on behalf of Kevan Lyon from the Marsal Lyon Agency.
