The Lego Nintendo Entertainment System was officially discontinued towards the end of 2024, but it could still be purchased from various retailers until recently. As of May 14, only Amazon appears to have stock left, and at first sight, it might seem like a reseller listing. This is because the NES Lego set has become one of the few Lego sets sold by Amazon above its Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP).
The price of the Lego NES on Amazon has been bumped up from $270 to $330. However, this new cost is considered a “deal” compared to the $355 price that Amazon was asking just last week. If Amazon doesn’t sell out beforehand, there’s a chance the price might drop back down to $270 again. In recent months, Amazon has occasionally raised the price as high as $360, but none of those increases lasted this long. It’s interesting to note that Target also lists the item as sold out at $330, which suggests Amazon may have been trying to match a competitor’s pricing.
Occasionally, it’s not unheard of for Amazon to sell products, such as retired Lego sets or items like the Horizon Forbidden West Tallneck, at prices above Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). Previously, we observed this with the Tallneck, which was priced at $90 but rose to $105 last year and has since sold out completely. Today, it can be found resold for around $150. Interestingly, Amazon was one of the few major retailers that had the Tallneck in stock when others did not.
The Lego Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) was among the initial releases of Lego Nintendo products in 2020, which means it has a longer lifespan compared to most kits available. Originally priced at $230, this set underwent an official price increase a few years ago. As a result, if you were to purchase the Lego NES from Amazon today, you would be expected to pay approximately $100 more than its original cost.
As a passionate collector, I can’t help but speculate about the potential future value of a sealed Lego NES. Considering its unique status as the first Lego Nintendo display model designed for adults, it seems plausible that $330 could be considered a bargain on the reseller market in the years to come. This prediction might even materialize before 2025, especially with the upcoming launch of Lego’s Game Boy. The Game Boy release could rekindle interest in the Lego NES as a complementary build, potentially boosting its worth.
Ignoring any concerns about cost, the Lego NES is fantastic! Here’s a closer peek at the retired set you see below. We’ve also provided information on upcoming Lego Nintendo sets that are about to be discontinued, along with adult-oriented Super Mario and Zelda construction kits that are still available for purchase at their regular price.
If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly Lego Nintendo display model, consider the 540-piece Super Mario Piranha Plant, currently selling at $48 (originally priced at $60).
This week, Lego is releasing their newest adult-oriented display model inspired by Nintendo, called “Mario Kart“. It’s priced at $170. This new addition expands the already popular Lego Mario Kart collection, which made its debut earlier in the year. In the autumn of last year, two more thrilling builds themed around Nintendo were introduced: “Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi” and “The Great Deku Tree“, marking the first Lego set based on The Legend of Zelda series.

More Super Mario Lego sets retire soon
It can be disheartening to find an increase in price for a retired Lego set at a big store, but it’s important to remember that often, these sets are discounted before they retire. As we speak, there are three Lego Super Mario sets about to leave the shelves, and you can score some great deals on each of them. The fantastic Bowser’s Muscle Car (458 pieces) is now selling for $24 (originally $30) at Amazon, while the Soda Jungle Maker Set (598 pieces) is nearly a $20 discount at Walmart. Last week, Amazon had this deal but sold out quickly, so be sure to act fast. Lastly, you can grab the smaller-scale Goombas’ Playground for just $9.39 (was $15).
In this tale, all Mario-themed sets discussed here are compatible with the electronic action figures from the initial Lego Super Mario sets. You’ll find three starter courses to pick among them, and there are current discounts available for the Mario, Luigi, and Peach variations on Amazon.
