Though it may not match the biting wit found in the original, RoboCop 2 remains a solid action movie that any ’90s Blu-ray collection should include. For enthusiasts of collector’s editions, a new 4K version of RoboCop 2 is coming soon, and you can preorder it exclusively from Amazon for $45 before its release on July 15.

In RoboCop 2, the story continues soon after the first film, focusing on the sinister intentions of the Omni Consumer Products (OCP) corporation. Their goal is to acquire and revitalize Old Detroit, secretly manipulating the police force during a citywide drug crisis engineered by ruthless criminal mastermind Cain (played by Tom Noonan). Meanwhile, RoboCop, portrayed again by Peter Weller, strives to maintain public trust and safeguard innocents. Simultaneously, OCP executives devise schemes to supplant RoboCop and climb the corporate ranks. Although it may lack the original’s overt social critique of the 1980s, it compensates with a more intense plotline, spectacular action scenes, and an enjoyable B-movie ambiance.
If you’re keen on experiencing the charm of old Detroit once more, explore the entire series on Blu-ray. If the collector’s edition cover doesn’t appeal to you, opt for RoboCop 2 in 4K or standard Blu-ray, and the original movie is available in these versions as well. RoboCop 3 has only been released on standard Blu-ray at this point, and while a 4K upgrade might not enhance its infamous poor quality, it’s still accessible. The 2014 remake can be bought in 1080p and 4K formats as well. Although the modern version doesn’t measure up to the original, it’s far from being as disappointing as you might expect, making for an enjoyable watch on a chilly evening.
You can obtain the 1994 RoboCop TV series on Blu-ray, however, for those who aim to complete their collection, it seems that a few gaps remain. Currently, the animated series – RoboCop: The Animated Series and RoboCop: Alpha Commando, as well as the live-action mini-series RoboCop: Prime Directives – have not been released on Blu-ray. In the meantime, for those who desire to embody justice within a robotic shell, you can purchase the engaging RoboCop: Rogue City on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. This first-person shooter is an accurate video game adaptation of the original content, offering a fresh storyline and featuring Weller’s return as the voice of RoboCop.
