The recently updated Kindle app for iOS addresses a frequent issue that BookTok users encounter when purchasing eBooks on their mobile devices, which was one of the main complaints.
In most cases, when you buy something within an app on your mobile device, around 30% of that transaction goes directly to Apple or Google as their service fee.
Because of these charges, businesses decided to eliminate the option to buy specific items. For instance, Amazon, a major player, took away the ability to purchase Kindle ebooks via their apps starting in early 2022.
On BookTok, it was frequently noted as an inconvenience by users that they had to switch to a web browser to purchase a book, expressing this frustration through their posts and comment sections.
2024 finds this individual expressing surprise when they can’t purchase a Kindle book through the Kindle or Amazon app, saying something like: “Wow, I can’t believe you can’t buy a Kindle book from these apps in the year 2024!” The conversation below the video saw many users adding that buying books on both apps doesn’t work and finding the webpage is tricky because it automatically opens the app instead.
Amazon adds “get book” button to Kindle app on iOS
On Tuesday, May 6th, Amazon unveiled an upgrade for its iOS Kindle app, making it simpler to purchase your preferred ebooks. Instead of a notice indicating that the book cannot be bought within the app, there is now a prominent “Buy Book” button accompanying each title.
Even though you haven’t started using the app yet, clicking the button will redirect you to the webpage associated with it. From there, you can take advantage of Amazon’s “Buy Now with One Click” feature.
It’s no longer as simple as just pressing a single button, as it used to be, but this new setup is still an enjoyable modification overall.
As a gamer, I’ve noticed that a new feature has been introduced on the Kindle app, but when I try to access it through the Amazon shopping app, I’m met with an “unavailable” message.
Amazon recently made an adjustment to its policies, following closely on the heels of a court decision that sided with Epic Games in their prolonged legal battle against Apple. This judicial verdict permits app creators to include a reference for users to buy products directly from another platform outside the app itself.
This adjustment implies that Epic Games intends to reintroduce Fortnite to Apple’s iOS App Store, with a return expected to occur in the near future.
