Amazon Gives Cast Contingent Series Order to ‘It’s Not Like That’ From Wonder Project

As a seasoned movie critic with a penchant for uncovering the nuances of human relationships and faith-based narratives, I find myself intrigued by Amazon MGM Studios’ latest offering, “It’s Not Like That.

The creative team behind The Wonder Project has received a green light for their new TV show idea from Amazon’s MGM Studios.

In ‘It’s Not Like That,’ I found myself immersed in a world created by the brilliant minds of Ian Deitchman and Kristin Robinson, the masterminds behind its production.

Lori, who has just gone through a divorce and has two teenage children, and Malcolm, a recently widowed father of three who’s also a minister, used to spend a lot of time together with their families. However, now they find themselves navigating single life, parenthood, and the unique challenges of Malcolm being a contemporary minister. Could this be the start of a romantic tale? Not necessarily. Or maybe it is.

Jon Erwin, Justin Rosenblatt, and Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten from Wonder Project will take on the role of executive producers, alongside Alex Goldstone for 42, Anonymous Content, and Kingdom Story Company.

Deitchman and Robinson are currently jointly overseeing production on “Off Campus,” a show that made it to Amazon Prime Video’s lineup in October. Their previous works include Amazon’s shows “As We See It,” “Carnival Row,” and “Z: The Beginning of Everything,” as well as series like “Ordinary Joe” and “Rise” on NBC, “Almost Family” on Fox, and “The Bold Type” on Freeform. They have also contributed to the popular NBC show “Parenthood” and written the film “Life As We Know It.

They are repped by Verve, 42 and McKuin, Frankel & Whitehead.

This represents the most recent commission from Amazon for the Wonder Project, as the corporation readies the Biblical series “House of David” for their streaming service. The online retail titan signed this deal in early 2024, with Michael Iskander slated to portray David in the production.

The Faith-Centric Venture, named The Wonder Project, debuted in 2023. This initiative was masterminded by Erwin and Hoogstraten. Before its launch, The Wonder Project managed to secure over $75 million in seed and Series A funding from notable investors such as Lionsgate, Jason Blum (a film producer), United Talent Agency, Sovereign’s Capital, and Powerhouse Capital. Dallas Jenkins, the creative mind behind the drama series “The Chosen,” which delves into the life of Jesus, serves as a strategic consultant for the company.
