Amanda Seyfried Starrer ‘Long Bright River’ Sells Out Nearly All Major Markets Worldwide: ‘It’s Got Huge Star Power and Propulsive Storytelling’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Among the most popular shows at this year’s Series Mania, “Long Bright River” featuring Amanda Seyfried has sparked immense interest worldwide. Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has successfully expanded its reach to various markets by partnering with robust regional or local distributors like Max and Warner Bros. Discovery.

This intriguing crime thriller has been acquired by Channel 4 (U.K.), Quebecor Content (Canada – French-speaking), Max (Latin America, France, Central & Eastern Europe, Poland), Warner Bros. Discovery ANZ (New Zealand), Bs10 Star Channel (Japan), RTE (Ireland), Movistar Plus+ (Spain), AXN (Portugal), Tim Vision (Italy), VRT (Flemish-speaking Belgium), BETV (Belgium), Nova (Greece) and beIN (region covering Turkey, Middle East, and North Africa).

The series made its global debut on Peacock in the U.S. on March 13, and has since been broadcasted in Canada (on Crave and USA Network), Australia (Stan), South Korea (LG Uplus), Hong Kong (Now TV), and Israel (DBS).

Actress Seyfried, renowned for her Academy Award nomination for “Mank” and Emmy win for “The Dropout,” steps into the character of police officer Mickey Fitzpatrick. This role finds her investigating a series of questionable murders while balancing single parenthood and the mysterious disappearance of her own sister.

What captivates me most when I’m watching something is feeling a sense of authenticity from the character. With so much action unfolding, it’s impossible not to root for Mickey, even with her flaws and errors,” Seyfried shared with EbMaster prior to the series premiere at French festival Series Mania.

Mickey encounters not only unresolved crimes in her community and the devastating opioid epidemic that changed Philadelphia, but she must also grapple with her own history and her sister’s tragic drug addiction, which eventually led to their estrangement.

Find someone who doesn’t have any connection to addiction, I doubt that exists. For me, it stirred up a lot of issues. It devastates lives,” expressed Seyfried. “We require more assistance, and particularly in America, we need to grasp it better. We need to learn what individuals battling substance use disorder truly require – not what we assume they require. It’s a disease. It’s terrible. But recovery is possible.

The eight-episode series is penned by Nikki Toscano (known for “The Offer” and “Hunters”) and Liz Moore, both of whom are executive producers. Notably, Toscano takes on the role of showrunner in this production.

According to Mike Wald, co-president of Sony Pictures Television’s distribution and networks, ‘Long Bright River’, which is based on Moore’s New York Times bestselling novel, is the sought-after limited series at present.

It boasts massive star appeal and compelling narrative development leading to a fulfilling end. Since its premiere at the Los Angeles Screenings in May, it’s received tremendous acclaim and is almost entirely sold, or about to be sold, in virtually every region.

According to TV critic Aramide Tinubu of EbMaster, this series presents viewers with a unique storyline unlike common murder mysteries. Instead, it evolves into a multi-layered narrative focusing on two sisters, their unavoidable family history, and a community struggling under the weight of poverty, addiction, and neglect.

She mentioned that the series “Long Bright River” is elegantly constructed and centers around themes of sisterhood, bonding, and secrets concealed beneath layers of guilt and embarrassment.

In the series, Seyfried appears alongside Nicholas Pinnock, Ashleigh Cummings, Callum Vinson, and John Doman.

The production company behind “Long Bright River” is SPT and UCP, a segment of Universal Studio Group. Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Amanda Lewis act as executive producers through Original Film, while Amy Pascal takes on the role as executive producer for Pascal Pictures. Additionally, Russell Rothberg serves as an executive producer.

SPT holds international distribution rights.
