Amanda Seyfried concurs that “Jennifer’s Body” could have benefited from stronger marketing efforts. Seyfried, who played Needy Lesnicki alongside Megan Fox in Karyn Kusama’s 2009 cult horror film, expressed her thoughts on the role during a recent interview with GQ.
I find it difficult to find fault with this film as I believe it’s flawless. It takes guts, and the screenwriter, Diablo Cody, is bold, attractive, intelligent, and witty. We were conveying a unique tension in a comedic manner within a specific genre. The visual effects were jaw-dropping, featuring stunts and all the elements you could ask for.
Despite now being recognized as a feminist cult classic, “Jennifer’s Body” initially struggled at the box office, a situation that Jennifer Seyfried attributes to ineffective marketing. “If there was anything for critics to criticize,” she said, “it would be the marketing. The marketing was poor; it simply wasn’t good.” This sentiment is shared by everyone involved in the film.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but feel disheartened when the marketing team seemed to undervalue the film, almost as if they saw it merely as a grisly thrill-ride. In my opinion, they missed the mark and failed to do justice to the exceptional collaboration between Karyn and Diablo. The character Needy was an absolute delight, and I found myself particularly drawn to her.
This film represented a unique opportunity for me to embody a truly nerdy persona, complete with glasses. On top of that, Megan’s transformation into a demon was nothing short of breathtaking. We all had a fantastic time working on this project, which is why I can’t help but express my desire to bring these characters back to life in a sequel, celebrating the fun and excitement we shared during its creation.
Despite Needy managing to survive the events portrayed in “Jennifer’s Body” and being admitted into a mental hospital by the film’s end, Jennifer (the title character) meets her demise during the climax of the movie. This could present some challenges for a potential sequel. However, Amanda Seyfried expresses optimism that there might be a way to bring Jennifer Check back to life on screen.
“She’s kind of dead, right? But is she? I don’t think she is,” she added.
