Amanda Seyfried “Not F***ing Apologizing” for Charlie Kirk Comments

Amanda Seyfried has stated she won’t apologize for calling the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk “hateful” after his passing.

She firmly stated she wouldn’t apologize for her comments. In an interview with Who What Wear while promoting her new film, The Testament of Ann Lee, she explained she simply commented on something based on real events, footage, and direct quotes. She emphasized her statement was factual and that she’s entitled to her own opinion.

On September 10th, Kirk was fatally shot while giving a speech at Utah Valley University. Just under 36 hours later, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson was arrested as a suspect in the shooting.

Although Amanda Seyfried stood by her original statement, the 40-year-old Mamma Mia star expressed gratitude that she could further explain her thoughts about Kirk on Instagram, in a post she shared on September 17th.

She pointed out that we often overlook the complexities of being human. She explained that it’s possible to be outraged by sexism and racism while simultaneously being deeply disturbed by the violent attack on Charlie Kirk, which she described as horrifying. She emphasized that no one deserves to experience such violence, and that the country is suffering from too many unnecessary and tragic deaths and shootings, asking if people could at least agree on that basic point.

After the death of the Turning Point USA co-founder, numerous celebrities spoke out against political violence, emphasizing that it’s wrong regardless of the perpetrator’s political beliefs.

As a film fan, I was really struck by Arnold Schwarzenegger’s recent post on X. He expressed his condolences to Charlie Kirk’s family and, more broadly, talked about how toxic politics has become in America – he even called it a deadly disease. But he wasn’t just doom and gloom. Arnold believes we can fix things, and that the solution lies within ourselves – that we need to tap into our better natures and move away from these extreme viewpoints. His main point, and it really resonated with me, is that no matter what we disagree on, we absolutely have to reject violence as a way to resolve conflict. He called this tragedy a moment for everyone to remember our shared humanity, and I think that’s a powerful message.

Rosie O’Donnell, the comedian, described the situation as completely unacceptable and cautioned people against fueling online negativity. Actress Jamie Lee Curtis, meanwhile, became visibly upset while discussing his death during an appearance on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast.

Jamie Lee Curtis often found herself disagreeing with his views, but she felt he was a deeply religious person. She hopes he found peace and connection with his faith at the time of his death.

However, others were more firm in their stance against Kirk’s beliefs.

Christina Ricci, known for her role in Yellowjackets, recently shared a post highlighting controversial statements made by Charlie Kirk. According to Ricci, Kirk has stated that passing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was a mistake, referred to Martin Luther King Jr. with derogatory language, deemed gay pride sinful, and suggested that some gun deaths are an acceptable price for upholding the Second Amendment.

Jimmy Kimmel’s talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, was temporarily paused for almost a week after he shared opinions on a recent shooting that many found controversial. The show returned to air on September 23rd.
