Actress Amanda Seyfried expressed that Hollywood feels “more secure” post-Harvey Weinstein‘s fall from power, with a hint of discomfort regarding the significant impact he once had in the industry.
Approximately 10 years ago, in Park City, Utah, Seyfried remembered an encounter with Weinstein. She said he was in a car, and in slow motion, he rolled down the window and asked if she would be attending “Lovelace” the next day. Weinstein initially planned to leave during her screening, but ended up postponing his trip, as Seyfried shared with Brody. The stars of “Mamma Mia” and “Long Bright River” were delighted by this unexpected turn of events. “Lovelace” was a film about Linda Lovelace, a well-known adult film star, and her infamous 1972 movie “Deep Throat.” Brody played her partner in the X-rated scenes.
Following the initial showing at Sundance, Seyfried mentioned that Weinstein had told her after the event that he had purchased the project for $3 million right there in the room.
Seyfried stated, ‘I embraced him warmly, but unfortunately his brother’s company, Radius, discarded it without a second thought. They didn’t take any action with it and that’s alright.’ She added, ‘Dictator-like’ was her description of the studio head. The room was abuzz when Harvey acquired it because he was like the patriarch of the gathering… Yet, it was simply how things were – we all relied on him to support our project if it was an independent film, as that meant it would gain traction.’
Brody recalled Weinstein as establishing an atmosphere of fear, then casually questioned, “What’s he up to now?
Currently, Weinstein stands trial for alleged sexual offenses in New York. In reference to “Lovelace,” Seyfried was not joking. The movie ended up earning just $1.5 million globally against an estimated production cost of $10 million.
Seyfried, now a potential Emmy nominee for her police drama “Long Bright River” on Peacock, expresses gratitude that the tyrannical rule of Weinstein is over.
She remarked, “Hollywood is now a more secure environment.” People were apprehensive around him, and when fear pervades, positive actions often fail to materialize.
